Terrible weekend :( Sad Update (post#104)

Glad they have diagnosed your dad, I hope he continues to improve:hug:

Pleased you got some positive news and that your dad is showing signs of improvement.
:wizard::wizard::wizard: for you that he continues to gain strength and :hug::hug:
Take care x

Sending lots of hugs and pixie dust to you and your Dad.

I just wanted to say thank you to everybody who has responded so kindly to this thread. It means a lot.

My dad now has pneumonia and anaemia - he has to have a blood transfusion to help with the anaemia. He had a lumbar puncture earlier today. He was having spasms which they think is due to low potassium levels. He is on so many drips. What an ordeal for him. He is a fighter and is hanging on in there.

It is such a help to be able to come on the Dis and 'tell it like it is' rather than being cautious what I say. It helps to just put it all down, if you know what I mean.

Sending you lots of :hug::hug:

I was in the same position as you last October - my dad had a prostrate exam and took a little turn for the worst a couple of days afterwards - they give you antibiotics after the exam but they dont work on everyone (there is a bug that if it gets into your bloodstream will give you septacemia).

He spent the night in hospital and my mum left for some lunch and I agreed to meet her there at 2pm for afternoon visiting.
When we arrived we were asked to wait - for over 2 hours - as they said they were "working on him" - when mum had gone for lunch he was sitting up reading his paper and asking for his lunch!

When we eventually get onto the ward they tell us he has septacemia, they have done all they can for him but his systems have shut down and they gave him about 2-4 hours to live:scared1::scared1:

He spent 2 weeks in intensive care - he was on dialysis/tracheotomy and loads of other things to - but he made it:banana::banana::banana:

He's still not 100% - but he was fit as a 50year old rather than a 72 year old - but i'd say he was at 90% which is far better than we'd ever ever thought we'd have.

So wishing you and your dad all the best with lots of :wizard::wizard:

This gives me hope.:goodvibes I'm so glad that your dad made such a good recovery. Like you, I was shocked by how quickly someone can go downhill. I know that my dad is still there - it's just like he is in a fog. :confused3

aww hun I'm so sorry for your dad I hope your dad continues to improve more sending my love to you and your family xx

Only just read this thread, so sorry you and your family are going through such a scary and uncertain time. Really hope your dad makes progress and gets better, big hugs x

hope your dad is feeling better really soon xxxx

The consultant has advised that my dad should not be resuscitated if his heart fails again.:sad1: He is not responding to the treatment given.

We have been called in tomorrow for a meeting with the consultant following his latest CT scan. I know that they are going to break bad news to us. The worse thing is that in his moments of lucidity, I am sure he knows what is happening to him. I made him laugh today - somewhere in his failing body, my dad is still there. It is breaking my heart.

I'm so sorry that you are not getting better news. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

I'm so very sorry, Juliette. I really wish I had something constructive and helpful to say but all I have are my best wishes. Please know I'm thinking of you and your family at what must be a truly horrible time...

I'm so sorry. :sad1: I will be thinking of you tomorrow.
