Terrible transfer trouble!!!

Hello! I just needed some ideas for our next trip b/c I had a bit of a disaster on my hands with our 2011 trip. I made these great shirts with an awesome Jordak design on them. We wore them the first day, and half way through the day they were cracking and peeling. Once they were washed, they were completely done. They were so great, so I was really upset. I had used the light transfers for those shirts. For our other shirts, I used dark transfers b/c I liked how they looked. Some of them didn't work out so well b/c when we dried them they peeled and melted!!! I don't know what happened b/c I followed the instructions, and they looked amazing! What a bummer. I am considering buying a screening machine this time b/c I am so irritated. Ideas please???

I'm guessing you aren't using Amy's! They are the only transfers I use, I don't know what magic she works, but they are dark transfers, and I have used over 100 of them (grand gathering) and my shirts from 2009 are STILL intact and wear well! Go to Amy mickey .com (no spaces) and I'm sure others will chime in.

I use the brand PrintWorks Dark T-Shirt Transfers. I normally get them from A.C.Moore although my local store is having a hard time re-stocking them this month. So I just ordered more from Amazon. They are $9.99 for 5 sheets. I don't know if they are 'perfect,' but they are hands-down the best I've used. I have yet to find a light transfer that works very well. Even the PrintWorks brand light ones seem to run their colors if they get wet. That was a disaster the first year I made shirts! So now I only use the dark ones.

I also try to remember to dry the shirts on low--that seems to have worked a lot because there are still some shirts I made our second year that the girls still wear. And now I also wash them inside-out so the transfer doesn't get damaged from the other clothes. I've had to start hiding some of my youngest daughter's shirts from last year because as soon as they are washed, she was wearing them again immediately! She does have other clothes in her closet!

I just used the Avery thshirt transfers (is that a no no around here? ) but after 4 years and many washes those shirts still look great.

Could it be your iron wasn't hot enough,or you didn't run it long enough and the transfer didn't have a chance to sink into the cloth? It should be right into the fabric, not on top of it at all.

You are free to use whatever transfers you want. I/we would never presume to tell people what product to use. However, some of us are big Amy fans as we had our shirts ruined using other transfers. I am glad Avery works for you & I know other people have had success with that brand.

I am also a huge Amy transfer fan, however, make sure that you are not drying the shirts with a fabric sheet in the dryer. I've found that the transfers don't adhere as well. I have shirts from our 2007 trip still looking great!

I totally know what you are talking about with your daughter! I am so sick of seeing our shirts now! We did several tie dyes, swirlhead Mickeys (and one Goofy for my son), the Jordak shirts, Star Wars weekends, etc...The only ones not holding up are the transfer ones. I saw one I made my brother today, and it still looked good, so I don't know what happened. I turned them inside out, didn't dry them after seeing what was happening, etc...Anyway, my older daughter is driving me crazy with how often she wears them. I love my Disney, but I hate only seeing the same shirts over and over again on 5 kids. Every time I turn around I see tie dye.

I did everything as I read it, and I can't tell you how gorgeous they were. It was so wierd. I think mine were Avery.

Awww, how non-judgemental you are!!!! I spent so much money on what I believe was Avery for the 12 people we had going. It hurts my pride and my wallet that they didn't hold up like I wanted. Now, in my defense, they wouldn't have held up anyway b/c we had something happen with our sunscreen too. It turned all the white shirts orange! That's what we think did it anyway. It just stinks! The orange didn't show up until we washed the clothes, and it was right where we applied sunscreen on all the shirts! Boo!

I hardly ever use dryer sheets, so that's not the issue, but thanx for the heads up! I wouldn't want the next batch ruined b/c I decide to use a dryer sheet that day!
