Teppan Edo Vegetarian Seating Question

We are a party of 7 adults going for lunch at Teppan Edo. 3 are vegetarians and the rest of us have no problem with ordering the vegetarian option as well. This way we all get our food prepared and eat at the same time instead of having them do the vegetarian meals before the grill and utensils touch meat or seafood.

My question is that since the tables can hold 8, what would be the right thing to do concerning them placing someone else at the same table?

Would they try to make us squeeze in an additional party of 2 on a table with 7 adults? (since chances are slim there is a party of 1 though it can happen.)

Should we advise them when we check in that all 7 of us would be ordering vegetarian meals in case they want to consider the additional time it will take?

I would hate to make another small party of 1 or 2 wait while the Chef made our vegetarian meals, but I do not see an alternative. Thanks for your thoughtsl

Nope, I dont think they will try to squeeze 2 ppl. I cant see how 9 would fit at the table. Its suited only for 8 ppl. I would note your vegetarian preference when you book the ressie and mention it again when they seat you to your table. Its not necessary for everyone to order a vegi meal...if the other 4 want meat, i'd highly recommend it. They have the most delish steak there. (I liked it better than le cellier! haha!).

They would not seat 2 at your table with 7 - the tables really only hold 8.
You could mention it when you check in if you wish. It is nice that you are concerned about the other party, but there is really nothing you can do.
Go and enjoy

The tables are for 8. If they have a solo, they'll put the solo at the table with you, and no, I wouldn't say the chances are really slim that there may be one. You won't be able to control what the solo orders, but they'll likely get their order prepared after all of yours if they don't want vegetarian. If they want to eat meat, they'll have to wait, there's no way around it.

On the other hand, if they put a solo with you maybe the non-vegetarians in your party can feel free to order whatever, unless the reason you want all the food at the same time is that you're in a hurry to get out and see Illuminations or something.

1) Hate to say it, but the question does not work.
2) The steel is only oil-wiped after each meal.
3) It is not hygienically cleaned (the porous steel can't be).
4) Therefore the vegetarians will be eating from a meat steel.
5) They may not "see" meat, but it was there before them.
6) And, meat remnants will still be there.

NOTE: This is why meals for allergy people are prepared in the back
room and not on the hibachi steel. There is no way to stop the
cross-contamination.

Thank you for the replies. I was really surprised to hear the grills were not hygienically cleaned in anyway. I would think this would open up the possibility of various issues with different kinds of contamination. Does the oil used somehow take care of harmful contaminants?

Our vegetarians (young adults) are fairly relaxed and I don't think they will have an issue if things are adequately wiped. We don't segregate a section of our gas grill or anything for them. Its more something touching meat then touching what they are eating right away or without even being wiped.

I think I marked special diet on the online reservation , but I will send an email to special diets asking them to note our reservations once we're positive on all our dining as well as let them know when we check in.

Thanks for the suggestions and info.

. . . Does the oil used somehow take care of harmful contaminants? . . .

1) No.
2) It is cooking oil.
3) That's it.
4) It cleans the grill of food remanants for the next cooking session.
5) Like you do at home with the charcoal grill to stop food sticking.
6) It does not kill germs.
7) As mentioned, for contamination, meals are prepared in the kitchen.
8) This grill is used solely for allergy meals.
9) This is the ONLY way to prevent contamination at Edo.

NOTE: This separate grill is usually NOT used for veggie meals.
Many veggie meals still contain things like nuts and such. People
with severe allergies cannot tolerate such. So, veggie foods are
not done on the special grill. Otherwise, serious contamination
problems can arise. I know of NO eatery that prepares veggie
meals on a special grill or with special pots and pans.
