Is it Teppan Edo that replaced Teppanyaki?? Or Tokyo Dining? Little confused? We want the hibatchi cooking (excuse my spelling errors;)) Also, does anyone know if they take the DDE, sorry Table of Wonderland card yet? Thanks. Oh and while I'm asking how is it in comparison to Teppanyaki??

"Teppan" refers to the grill they use to cook the food. Edo was the old name of Tokyo, the capital of Japan. "Teppanyaki" can be used to refer to the style of cooking they practiced there.

And yes, Teppan Edo is the refurbished Teppanyaki. I've heard mixed reviews, but most seem to come out that it's at least the same, if not better than, Teppanyaki.

We ate there for the first time in January and loved it. We were thinking of getting the TIW card but didn't see Teppan Edo on the list.

Teppan Edo replaced Teppanyaki when it went through an extensive refurbishment 2 years ago. It is the grill side of the restaurant. Teppan Edo is a must do for us each year.
It is a beautiful restaurant, and the chef's put on a nice "show" as they cook your meal. We enjoy the food very much.
You are seated at tables for 8, so you may be seated with another party at your table.
Have a Great Trip

Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining don't accept TIW.

Tokyo Dining replaced the Matsunoma Lounge and Tempura Kiku.

We are going this June..... can't wait. We have a place similar to the type of cooking in our city but don't go there often. This will be a treat for us...

Hello all! My DD (9 yrs); DCousin & her DD (10 yrs) just ate here on Wed. 3/18/09. We had 8:10 PS, but did not get there until 8:30. We were worried because the parks were so crowded (BIG difference in Epcot that day vs the previous Sunday - probably due to Flower & Garden Festival).

OK - back to the subject. We were seated with no issues at all. I was disappointed to see that the children's menu only offered chicken or shrimp. My DD prefers steak, but got the chicken and did enjoy it. (I believe they had 2 other offers as the restaurant used the same "standard" menu setup for kids that other WDW restaurants have... right side of the page offering 2 "Mickey plated" meals & then a tall white column w/ other choices.)

I had sirloin and it was fine. My DCousin & her DD both had filet and loved it. Dessert was really good!

Our cook was a female and she was good. We did see some other cooks that were more entertaining than ours. The assistant kept my lemonade filled up w/out ever having to request it. The service was excellent.

In St. Louis we eat at Shogun, a teppenyaki restaurant, often. We have more choices plus we get salad & a soup as part of our local meal. Since we were doing the DDP, we were not able to get those w/ our meal. Also, the local place offers steak for the kiddos.

One other point of interest... this is a leased restaurant, not WDW operated. My cousin was VERY happy to find pink packets of Sweet & Low available.

I never ate at the old restaurant here so I can't compare. I have heard other DisBoard comments that when it comes to steak, some preferred this over LeCelleur (spelling?) because it's hard to get in at LeCelleur due to it's size.

Hope this helps you somewhat.

We love it. I always get the steak and shrimp. To be honest it is to much for me to eat alone. My son always gets the shrimp. I think out next trip I will order an appetizer and something else for my son and I will order the steak and we will share. Like I said it is just way to much food! We are on the DDP so not sure if this is doable. But I am going to try it on our next trip and pay OOP for the appetizers we order.

We are thinking of trying this restaurant in the fall when we go back to disney.

I am glad I found this thread. So this restaurant is not disney owned. Can you still book your ADR's like with every other restaurant and what about if you are doing the dining plan? Do they take the dining plan or is this a restaurant that we would need to pay for out of pocket?

I am a little hesitant as I see there are no single tables and not sure how it would be with strangers.

Any one have any opinions on this? Is it uncomfortable?
Thanks for the info. :)

We have no problem with this setup. My kids LOVE eating in Germany because they can talk to other guests. My experience has been that they ussually seat other families that are close to our "ages". That's not to say that will always be the case, but I think with us having kids they kinda stick other kids with us.

you can make ADR's for teppan edo and they are on the DDP.

I love Teppan Edo! We've eaten there 3 times now and I always order the chicken and shrimp along with the California Roll as an appy. Atmosphere is fun and the food is delish!

Lilmattie - yes, I'd book it. (Your other questions have been answered...) One of the things that I love about going to WDW is the people... no one minds snapping photos for other families, everyone is excited to be there :cool1:, and everyone has their favorite rides, restaurants, characters, etc. You'll possibly really enjoy meeting other families, finding out where they are staying, comparing notes... don't let table sharing make you shy. I've never been to a teppenyak (spelling?) restaurant where we had our own table with a smaller sized party. You never know, the other people could wind up being "THE PARTY" :rotfl: and you'll be glad you did it! Have fun!

Thanks so much for the replies.

I am definitely going to book then. After reading such good things about it, I cant wait.

My husband can be somewhat shy sometimes, so I didnt want him to feel uncomfortable, but after more thought, I think he will do fine.

I have never been to one of those restuarants where they cook at the table, so it will be a nice experience for me too.

thank again everyone for great advice :thumbsup2
