Teppan Edo or Tokio dining?

If you are looking for sushi in addition to the hibatchi - then do not expect that at Teppan Edo. It was very limited! We asked to pay extra to have sushi brought to the table and they said no! (we were not on the dining plan) and would have paid OOP. We will not go back.

We had sushi brought to our table when we ate at Teppan Edo. And everyone raved about it (I thought the California roll was good, but I don't eat the fish, so I have to go with what others were saying). We were on the dining plan, so we just had to pay extra for the appetizers we got.

Fried Rice is a Chinese dish. You will not find it at a true Japanese restaurant.
Boiled White Rice is the correct side for an authentic meal.

I don't know anything about that, but all the hibachi places I've been too serve the fried rice with the onion (after the "onion volcano") and egg. It's delicious. Since Teppan Edo is Americanized, I'm surprised they don't have it.

Teppan Edo is trying to stay traditional but as I posted above teppanyaki style cooking is a recent invention so there is not a ton of tradition behind it.

The BeniHana around my area made it an upcharge for Fried rice.

We were on the dining plan when we went to Tokyo Dining...see my 2011 siggie;)
Great TR! Really liked the pics, now I'm hungry!

For the people wanting sushi, they should go to California Grill. I'm not a sushi eater but my friends raved about it for weeks, and they got it on the dining plan.
Yeah I was planning on going there too, we were going to do the dxdp and I loves me my sushi and sashimi so was hoping to get it in alot of places! Every where else it was going to be steak! :goodvibes

Hi,
We have eaten at both Tepan Edo and Chefs the France numerous times. Teppan Edo is similar to your neighborhood Benihana. Is it any better or worse? We'd say it is about the same which in our opnion is fine. If that is what you are looking for at WDW, it works. One good thing is that once you are seated, they do pace you reasonably and you get done with your meal in good time without being rushed.

The times we have been there, we have ordered sushi off the menu (may have only been california rolls).

I say that if you have been to Chefs De France, try Teppan Edo just for the sake of trying something differrent.

At the world showcase, we have also been to the Nine Dragons and Morroco. The only place we would not go back to is the Dragons. Morrocco is fine but we like Chefs and Tepan Edo better

You are very correct. Fried rice is Chinese. Japanese restaurants serve boiled short grain (sushi) rice. Authentic Japanese restaurants would not serve fried rice. If they do, it'd only be to satisfy those who ask for it or the restaurant is really Americanized and will not distinguish Chinese cuisine from Japanese cuisine. Also, Chinese restaurants only serve fried rice for lunch. It is not traditionally eaten at dinner. If it is served at dinner, it's only for birthday or wedding banquets at the end of a multi-course meal. At a standard dinner, Chinese people don't eat fried rice, just boiled white rice to accompany the entree dishes. However, they'd serve the fried rice at dinner to satisfy those who ask for it. Definitely not typical for Chinese people to eat fried rice for dinner as the different stuff in the fried rice would interfere in the flavours of the entree dishes.

We've been to Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining and prefer Teppan Edo. Tokyo Dining has too many deep fried dishes that we just like to avoid.

We have been to both Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining and enjoyed them both. Never been to La Hacienda, so I cannot comment on that restaurant. Teppan Edo had a great dinner and "show", while Tokyo Dining had great food and a spectacular view, as we were lucky enough to get a window seat overlooking Epcot. I think both experiences are dependent on what your expectations are. If you have a good hibachi style restaurant in your area, maybe Tokyo Dining would be a better choice. My husband had sushi which he enjoyed, and I had a scrumptious tempura/sushi combo. Regardless of the TS restaurant choice in Japan located in world showcase, I feel the service is absolutely top-notch in both locations and both offer good food.
