I did quite a bit of research on those two for planning ADRs for my upcoming trip. The consensus seemed to be if you have a hibachi/teppanyaki/Benihana sort of restaurant at home that you like, you can probably skip Teppan Edo. However, if you get a good table of guests and a good chef, I bet the experience is still awesome.
Tokyo Dining seems to be more about tempura and items you'd find at a Japanese restaurant and/or good sushi bar. I imagine the ingredients come from the same place, so the quality should be similar.
We weren't terribly impressed with Teppan Edo - probably because we have some good Habachi grill places near us that we really enjoy. Probably won't be returning to this restaurant.
I pretty much go along with Kakikomori.
. . . for American-style food, do Teppan Edo *
. . . for more Japanese-taste, do Tokyo Dining
* Yes, it is hibachi-style, but the tastes and flavors
have been greatly Americanized.
Has anyone gone to Tokyo dining on the dining plan? Do the limit the menu greatly? I am a big sushi lover and don't want to go and find out that I can't order what I want.
Last time we ate at Teppan Edo they didn't have fried rice. I thought that was odd because that's always the best part of our meal when we go to a hibachi style place. Definitely not as good as the place at home.
Fried Rice is a Chinese dish. You will not find it at a true Japanese restaurant.
Boiled White Rice is the correct side for an authentic meal.
