Hi all!! I already have dining reservations at chefs de france at Epcot, but with the new additions in the dining plan Brochure.. I would like to try a new place. I had dinner at chefs twice last year.
What do you think?

I did quite a bit of research on those two for planning ADRs for my upcoming trip. The consensus seemed to be if you have a hibachi/teppanyaki/Benihana sort of restaurant at home that you like, you can probably skip Teppan Edo. However, if you get a good table of guests and a good chef, I bet the experience is still awesome. :thumbsup2

Tokyo Dining seems to be more about tempura and items you'd find at a Japanese restaurant and/or good sushi bar. I imagine the ingredients come from the same place, so the quality should be similar.

Here's the menus if that would help you to make a decision:

Tokyo Dining
Teppan Edo

We weren't terribly impressed with Teppan Edo - probably because we have some good Habachi grill places near us that we really enjoy. Probably won't be returning to this restaurant.

Thanks for your quick reply!!
I do have a benihana near us, although I never went there. :cool1: that's way I would like to try it. About Tokyo dining, I had the same impression, I'll skip this one so.
I had in mind "la hacienda" as well, but I read some bad reviews. Have you tried it? If so, which is the best one for you? Maybe you want to suggest another restaurant at Epcot, I open to new options :)

Thanks!!! If you have to choose the top 3 in Epcot, which are your options?

We were debating the same thing and last night I asked hubby and it looks like we're going with Teppan Edo. The menues were very similar from what I saw, so that wasn't a huge concern. We've only ever been to a teppanyaki place once before and that was with the in-laws this past summer when we visited them for vacation and hubby said he liked the "show" and would like to do that, so that is how we made our choice.

We love Teppan Edo and it is a must do for us each trip. It is WAY better than our local Japanese Steakhouse. We enjoy the food, the entertainment and the ambience. That said, we tried Tokoyo Dining last trip. We are not Sushi lovers so we focused on the Tempura. While it was good - it was just too much fried food. I don't think we will go back here soon.
We also tried La Hacienda. We enjoyed it very much. The taco appetizer was delicioius and nice to sample different things. The chips and salsa are very good. We shared the La Hacienda dinner for 2 and it was great!!
We also like Restaurant Marrakesh in Morrocco. It is a beautiful restaurant, with warm friendly servers and good food.
We ate at the new Via Napoli and the pizzza was excellet
Good Luck with your choice.

I pretty much go along with Kakikomori.
. . . for American-style food, do Teppan Edo *
. . . for more Japanese-taste, do Tokyo Dining

* Yes, it is hibachi-style, but the tastes and flavors
have been greatly Americanized.

We love Tokyo Dining, but we are sushi lovers. Just not into Teppon Edo AT ALL. We ate there once with friends (they wanted to go) and it was meh.

As for La Hacienda, we ate there once and I wasn't a big fan. I have no buring desire to go back.

Last time we ate at Teppan Edo they didn't have fried rice. I thought that was odd because that's always the best part of our meal when we go to a hibachi style place. Definitely not as good as the place at home.

Yep, as PPs have said: Teppan Edo is very americanized food. (and you'd have to search really hard to find fried rice in a true Japanese restaurant, since it is actually of Chinese origin). But I digress. We really enjoyed our meals at Tokyo Dining. Much preferred the quieter atmosphere, and thought the sushi was excellent.

Also loved the food at La Hacienda. So refreshing to have true Mexican cuisine instead of TexMex. Great salsa and chips. The pork tenderloin with mole negro sauce and the tamal de dulce for dessert were absolutely out of this world. However we did find the service to be very slow.

If you like French cuisine, and would consider doing a signature, then I would suggest taking a look at Bistro de Paris, since it has been added to the DDP.

If you are looking for sushi in addition to the hibatchi - then do not expect that at Teppan Edo. It was very limited! We asked to pay extra to have sushi brought to the table and they said no! (we were not on the dining plan) and would have paid OOP. We will not go back.

Has anyone gone to Tokyo dining on the dining plan? Do the limit the menu greatly? I am a big sushi lover and don't want to go and find out that I can't order what I want.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm so confuse now :confused3
AVMMom, I have the same question, are the sushi platters included in the dinning plan? I'm not a big fan of the Tempura items, but I'm a sushi lover too! So maybe this is a very important point to make a decision. Also, Sushi or show?

Well its supposed to be, teppanyaki style cooking is only about 60 years old and was created to sell Japanese style food to american GI's.

If you go to Tokyo , Benihana's is called Benihana's of New York.

We were on the dining plan when we went to Tokyo Dining...see my 2011 siggie;)

Fried Rice is a Chinese dish. You will not find it at a true Japanese restaurant.
Boiled White Rice is the correct side for an authentic meal.

I don't know anything about that, but all the hibachi places I've been too serve the fried rice with the onion (after the "onion volcano") and egg. It's delicious. Since Teppan Edo is Americanized, I'm surprised they don't have it.

For the people wanting sushi, they should go to California Grill. I'm not a sushi eater but my friends raved about it for weeks, and they got it on the dining plan.
