Teppan Edo or Coral Reef?

I think I know who wins this decision, but I have been to neither. So I could be surprised. We are a family of five, with girls ages 10, 8 and 4. Doing Akershus for breakfast. So all things considered (food, children, atmosphere), should I choose Teppan Edo or Coral Reef for dinner. Thanks!

Having been to Teppen Edo recently, it gets my vote.
The chef provides some cool entertainment. The food was really great and there were plenty of options.
I did see lots of children in the dining room also.
I hope I helped with your decision.
On my next trip, I want to try different places, but Teppen Edo is on my list to dine at again!

both are really good. I enjoyed the food at teppan edo more but the atmosphere at coral reef is really cool.

Well we like the atmosphere and menu at Coral Reef, but I think with kids Teppen Edo would be the better choice. Great for a big group.

Teppan Edo for the overall package. Food, atmosphere, and chef it has it all. Coral Reef is a cool experience but the food has been less then satisfactory recently. Teppan Edo for this guy

Never been to Teppan Edo but we have done Coral Reef (and loved it). We have taken out kids to a place like Teppan Edo in our hometown, and yes they did like it and it was entertaining. I personally found Coral Reef to be unlike any place I have ever been...and I love animals/fish/ etc as well as one of my kids. The fish kept my toddler entertained when we were there and that says a lot. I thought the food was good too, though it was a few years ago. Either one is a good choice, though I would go against the majority and choose Coral Reef.

My DD10 wants to have her 11th BD dinner at Teppan Edo. Her and her DB 14 like Epcot alot and like Asian food, so he's ok with her choice.

What do your kids enjoy? Stir fry food is quicker, but if you are not a party of 8, you may be sharing a table with others. Coral Reef, you will have your own table, but no guarantee of getting a tank view table. Either place is very kid friendly and park attire.

I've heard good and bad about Coral Reef. But, no personal opinion. Haven't been to Teppan Edo either, but we have a similar restaurant at home, and we have enjoyed going there. I have heard portions at Edo are small, but that is fine. While my teen is a very good eater, little one is not, and I much rather not be a doggie bag toter while on vacation.

I really like both places, but i would have to go with Teppan Edo. The food is good and the chefs are very entertaining. In my opinion it is the best meal I've had at WDW. It is also my DD(8) favorite as well. You can't go wrong with either place in my opinion.

Thanks for the input everyone. My wife, by the way, can be a picky eater. She's a "meat and potatoes" kind of girl. She will eat at the hibachi restaurant at home, but orders basic steak/filet with little seasoning or soy type flavoring. Do you think Teppan Edo can accommodate her simple tastes? I'm playing it safe with our other ADRs all week, but I don't want to take her too far outside her comfort zone on vacation.

I would think Teppan would accomodate. After all, they make the food in front of you and you can talk to the chef. They have steak and filet on the menu. We don't like too much seasoned either, but I don't remember our local grill place being that seasoned or strong tasting of soy (strong soy taste is not my favorite either). I am a meat and potato kinda girl too, but I do like rice and I do stir fry at home.

IMHO, I will not bring my children to Coral Reef again. The service is painfully slow and I felt the food to be over priced. I would, however, not hesitate to bring them to Teppan Edo. The food was quicky, yummy, fresh and you got a show right along with it. That keeps the children's attention, I find.

They will accommodate the food w/o sauce at TE. Keep in mind at Coral Reef there are only so many tables by the tank.

Looks like I'm in the minority here. I would choose Coral Reef. Teppan Edo is decent but if you have a Teppanyaki place in your home town my guess would be that its far better.

Benihanas which are located all over the country is IMHO far better. Near Downtown Disney is Kobe's which it too is superior to Teppan. Don't get me wrong, Teppan has decent food, decent show but when compared to most other places similar it tends to loose its appeal to me. Smaller portions, no fried rice (not Japanese although most others include it), not as good of show (no fire), and atmosphere is rather dull to me in comparison. Still, kids do like watching the chef cook in front of them.

Coral Reef got my kids vote easily. They were glued to watching the huge aquarium especially the sharks and giant sea turtle swim by. The food and service has always been good for us and desserts were excellent.

Another vote for Teppan Edo! I have 3 pretty picky kids, and my 8 year old requests Teppan Edo every year. They eat the chicken, some rice and edamame and are happy. I found Coral Reef overrated, food was just mediocre, and if you're not sitting right next to the aquarium it's more like a tease to your kids, who can't really get right up next to it and look around.

Definitely Teppan Edo. My husband and I have eaten at both and I'm not certain we'd eat at Coral Reef again. Our food was good but we were not near the aquarium and, quite frankly, that's what would matter most. Teppan Edo was fun and the food was delicious!

We loved Teppan Edo a few trips ago..this past June we went back and didn't love it.
The service is great..but we didn't love the food. The steak was good - I had the scallops and got exactly 4. Not bad, not great and definately not filling. The kids got the chicken and liked it well enough. The noodles were basically covered in soy sauce and tons of sesame seeds..and the veggies were 75% onions. Not sure if it was just an *off* night..but we were less than impressed and have crossed it off our list for a while.
Coral Reef has always been a favorite of ours. We have never had a bad meal there (love the lobster ravioli, mahi mahi, lobster soup and the New York Strip is wonderful). I will admit..the service can be waaaay slow.

I haven't dined at either, but I will be eating at Coral Reef next week! Having not tried either restaurant, I can only base my recommendation on menu and atmosphere.

Due to the ages of your kids, while I think the "show" of Teppan Edo would be fun, Coral Reef would probably be a better choice unless your kids are adventurous eaters. I remember vividly HATING anything other than American food when I was their ages. LOL! Coral Reef has more varied options; a little something for everyone. The atmosphere would be fun for them, and you can request to wait for a table next to the tank if you wish. If you think your kids would go for the food at Teppan Edo, your choice will be harder to make! So good luck!

For us, Coral Reef. Teppon Edo is fine, but Hibachis are a dime a dozen (at least where I live), and its nothing special IMO. I've had a decent steak at the reef and my sons seem to like their kids choices (personal pizza if I remember right). And the view is pretty unique.

Well, as I'm reading every one of your replies I think I've decided. Then I read the next comment and it's equally convincing. Wish we were going to Epcot 2 days, at least in terms of dining. Thanks again everyone, even if you made my decision more difficult.
