DS and I are doing a Mommy-and-Me getaway for his 5th birthday. Our favorite local Japanese steakhouse has a special dessert, where the birthday child is given a Polaroid photo of himself/herself wearing a festive Japanese hat while the staff plays drums and sings to him/her. We've done several family birthdays there, so I thought Teppan Edo might be a way of keeping with that tradition while at WDW. But should I expect them to do anything festive for birthdays? Or am I better off just ordering a cake? Anyone have experience with this?

I know this thread is from a while back, but I'm curious as well. Has anybody celebrated a birthday at Teppan Edo? Care to share?

We had an adult celebrating a birthday at our table the same night as my son's 5th birthday. Both the adult and my son received a cupcake with a candle in it. So it wasn't "kiddie" at all, but it was fine with us.

DS enjoyed his meal despite having some pre-dinner anxiety about the volcano and theatrical use of flame often used at Japanese steakhouses. At Teppan Edo, to our delight, they don't use fire effects, but they do still employ a lot of fun show elements.
