I guess silly question, but i have heard great things about this restaraunt... I have never eating japanese food before but the food looks great and the experience with them cooking in front of you looks fun...with that said, it would be myself, my wife and my two dd 13 and 5... my wife and 5 yo are very picky eaters..they eat alot of plain food dry, like burgers or chicken or steak, does tappan have any plain dry food, like say chicken breast plain? or maybe plain steak? my wife and daughter does not like any sauce or anything with there food, just plain jane dry yucky food..once again, sorry if dumb question, but this place looks like a blast....thanks

Their chicken breast and steak are plain actually. They season it, but thats all. Their rice comes plain too if that helps. Their food is very tasty btw. Believe it or not i had a much better steak here than at Le Cellier!! Lol.

oh i almost forgot to mention, each person gets 3 dipping sauces with their meals. Theyre all quite good!

This place is a lot of fun. Your fam will love it. My son loves teppanyaki and asks to go to Teppan Edo every trip.

The steak, Chicken or Shrimp do not come with anything on them but a little salt and/or pepper. They give you dipping sauces to dip them in, so you don't have to use them. Food is good and pretty strait forward

Enjoy! :thumbsup2

If you want your steak or chicken without the added soy sauce etc ask your server to tell the chef not to put anything on your food. They will do it as I can't eat certain things on my food & they had no problems doing it this way. I was very happy with them. Have you thought of going to Tokyo Dining? We really like them better just no show :)

sounds fun..... do the chefs cook in front of all the tables? or do you have to have special seating for that? and no, never heard of the tokyo restaraunt....does the teppan edo only take one dinning credit or two?

They cook the meat, veggies, and the udon noodles over the grill. If you don't want any sauce over those items, then you should tell the server and maybe remind the chef. Of course, the teriyaki or shoyu sauces are what makes the dishes tasty and teppanyaki.

I don't think you can get it any plainer than Teppan Edo, unless they just don't like the fact that the method of cooking is different. You can ask that the chef not use soy sauce or sesame seeds in cooking, and the dipping sauces are on the side.

The tables around the grills seat 8. If you have a party of less than 8 you will be sharing the table with other parties. Make sure you ask for special orders before the chef starts cooking and they will cook your food with no sauce or seasoning before they cook the food for the rest of the table.

I agree. I personally wouldnt tell them to hold the soy/teriyaki sauce. Those sauces give the dish a nice flavour...theyre not at all strong like curry for example. Theyre very mild in taste. udon noodles and meat without these sauces would lack flavour big time i think. I cant imagine without it.

Though at Tokyo Dining the cooking does not take place in front of you, they do have fairly plain grilled chicken, salmon, and beef menu options too, sauce can be served on the side. DH likes these as he is not into sushi or tempura. Tokyo is a bit quieter than Teppan, no shared tables either.

Both Tokyo Dining and Teppan Edo are on the same floor above the store, two different restaurants, same check in area, and both take 1 TS credit.
