It's MARVELOUS, simply MARVELOUS.
Been going to Fort Wilderness since the 70's (yes, last century) and have always tent camp up until 2 months ago when the move up to pure luxury, a pop up camper, was accomplished.
However, tent camping is quite nice. The sites are clean, fairly level and the area to pitch your tent is firm enough to hold the stakes nicely and large enough to pitch several tents and a screen house.
Each site has electric, (30 amp-1 outlet and 20 amp-4 outlets), so bring extention cords for frig, TV, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, radio, etc.
DID I MENTION THIS REALLY ROUGH CAMPING
Water is also provided and if you can believe it, cable TV and internet access (for a daily fee) are also available on each site. Additionally, you have a nice picnic table which you can move if you wish and a grill.
The restrooms, called comfort stations are air conditioned and beautiful. They have tiled walls and floors, good lighting and hot showers. They are kept very clean as well. In the center of each comfort station is an area that has washers, dryers, a large sink for washing items out and I believe an ice machine.
Lastly, October is a great time to come. Although it can still be awfully warm during the day, the nights tend to be very pleasant.
Hope this helps. You are definitely in the right forum to get the best information possbile on Fort Wilderness from all these great folks.
