Tent camping - "potty" in the tent?

Go to the toilet/bush. This is supposed to be camping.

This summer we were in the middle of potty training and had to figure something out for the popup (no toilet). I was going to buy one of those5 gallon bucket like ones from Walmart, but then saw a great idea online for 1/4 the price: A 5-gallon bucket from Home Depot and then a pool noodle cut and fitted around the top of the bucket. The height is just right even for mom, it's soft and pretty comfortable, with a bag or kitty litter, it's even better than what is sold out there.

Okay, here is the trashy UTV Midwestern style portable toilet. Take a five Gallon Bucket with lid. Keep the handle intact. Take a pool noodle, and cut it to make it fit in a u shape. Now slice it about 1/2 way through so it fits "u-shaped on the top of the bucket. Place a roll of toilet paper through the handle of the bucket. Place a tall kitchen bag in the bucket, place kitty liter in the plastic liner in the bucket, place pool noodle on bucket. Voila, a homemade potty. You can even put the lid on it by taking off the noodle. Simply pull off the plastic bag, knot, and place in garbage. I have a picture, in use! Should someone want to see it!!!!

When we tent camped, DH bought me a tent used for showing. He made a box to set the portable potty in - we put it right by the door & no running down the road saying no pee no pee. We even used it during the day. This is camping in Texas State Parks.

I've owned one of these for about 5 or 6 years. Best camping purchase I ever made.

Takes a bit of septic safe chemicals in the bottom part. The top half is filled with clean water. It flushes like a regular toilet and the seat is big and comfortable. It will last several weeks if you only use it for middle of the nights. To empty, just unhook the bottom part (will still have a seal over it,) take to any toilet and empty. Rinse out. All done.

Super simple. Zero maintenance. NEVER had a leak or even the slightest sign of odor. All these years and seals are still good. I would highly recommend it. Better than spending several hundred dollars on the name brand ones, and beats the heck of going in a bucket or kitty litter.

We have a tent that has a screened "porch" on the front. I put the toddler potty in it. DD7 and DD3 pee in that at night. When they wake up in the middle of the night to pee it's an emergency; no walking to the bathroom for them. Then I make DH empty it in the morning. Easy Peasy. Although I love the kitty litter idea.

If you don't want to use kitty litter, you can also use diapers to line the bag with. They absorb and hold a lot!

Please accept my apologies if this statement seemed offensive. I wasn't intending to demean anyone's method that works best for them, I just like having a real "toilet."

Just reading the thread and it sounded very rude when I read it back to myself.
