I just returned from five nights of tent camping at Fort Wilderness. It was really awesome!

When I go again, I'll know ahead of time what to bring and what not to bring. This was my first time camping in 20 years or so, so it was definitely a trial-and-error trip. I was in the 2000 loop - Spanish Moss. While there wasn't much shade for the tent pad, the tall pines kept the area reasonably cool for summer. The one thing I forgot was my fan. I had it on the shelf of things to take, but somehow missed it! So the first night I slept fine w/o one, but bought another the next day and slept much better with one!

I purchased the Quick Service Dining Plan, but brought everything to make breakfast. The first morning, I lit charcoal for a nice camp breakfast and put the potatoes on the grill in a pan. I waited, and waited, and waited! I ditched the pan and transferred the potatoes to foil. They cooked a bit faster, but when all was said and done it was about an hour before everything was ready. Since I'm basically a cereal and milk breakfast guy - I stuck with that the rest of the week.

The best things that I liked about Fort Wilderness were the activities, the cleanliness of the campground, and I really enjoyed the Hoop Dee Doo. FW is huge, so the bus system really came in handy when my feet were tired from walking. Quick / Counter Service dining is very limited at the Fort, but I was able to drive to several other places in WDW to redeem the "coupons."
All in all it was an excellent camping trip.

Here are a few photos from my trip:

Sounds like a fun trip. Can't wait to see your pictures.

I have that tent! :) We upgraded to something bigger so we can stand up in it, but that Coleman has served us well over the years, including through a torrential rain storm in VA and a thunderstorm while canoe camping on an island! Glad you had fun! Dunno if I'll ever camp at FW because it's so far, but maybe I can convince hubby...if I start hinting now perhaps he'll agree to it by the time we retire...in about 40 years....

We camped that same week at FW for the 1st time ever. WOW - what a GREAT place to camp! We requested a loop near the pool and they put us in the 1500 loop - super convenient as the pool complex and Meadows Trading Post were right across the road.

Our pop up is not air conditioned but the small "vornado" fan kept us cool enough at night to sleep well. Lots of shade in our site - 1502 AND it was right near the comfort station.

We would love to go back and take more advantage of all the campground has to offer since most of the time we were enjoying the theme parks!

I'm glad you had a great time! I definitely would request the 1500 loop next time. There's really a lot to do at FW.
