the same as staying at a value resort?

Ok, I will admit it had been YEARS since I stayed at the Fort. My Dad used to take us there all the time. Now as a parent, I was all set to book a tent camping site and found out it was about the same price as a value stay. Is that right? A tent camping site for 3rd week of April is $56.00 a night and a value resort is $64.00 (Both Fl res). Am I doing something wrong or is this what it costs now to tent camp?

Well, if you have a small group, then sure, the All Stars are comparable in price. A standard room at the Value resorts only accomodates 4 max. Compare that to the campsites which accomodate up to ten people. For a bigger family it results in a HUGE savings. And then, there's the experience of camping which is either a plus or a minus depending on your point of view. The campsites definately aren't "cheap" but they are "cheaper" for a lot of bigger families.

I am not negating the camping experience at all. I have fond memories of camping at the Fort. I was just wondering if the rate I found was the "going rate" now.

thanks for the reply.

Yep, that rate looks about right. Campsite rates have been rising steadily for a while now :(

This is a prime example that camping is a lifestyle choice...not a financial choice.

Well, I have 5 kids... one of the reasons we camp! Kids like it alot! You can't ride your bike at the hotel I don't think.... no golfcarts... can't cook in the hotel room in most places.... We did the dining plan for 3 years, but it just isn't as good a deal as it once was, so we bought a camp kitchen and stove with the money we saved from not doing the dining plan. Our trip last year was under $1000.00! All we did was hang at the Fort!! We have tickets for the park that we could use... but just wanted to relax! Like Big Daddy said, its a way of life....
(plus I'm a former Boy Scout and have camped all over the USA)

Talk about crazy... one day tickets in the parks for the 7 of us is over $500!

not happy at all about the 1400 loop being paved over.... not good
