Tendonitis?

So I go to the doctor almost 2 weeks ago for my yearly check-up. I tell her my arm has been hurting since about March. I started going to the Gym in Sept. up until then I did not realize it hurts up into my shoulder too, when I use the arm machines. She says don't use those machines for a couple of weeks because they are probably aggravating the problem.

My point is and I don't think she got it, was my arm was hurting for about 6 months or so before I started going to the gym. I don't think laying off the machines for a couple of weeks is going to help. As a matter of fact tomorrow it will be 2 weeks and I think my arm is worse.

Any suggestions? Is there any other treatment for tendonitis. I am so frustrated, I just want to be back to normal. My insurance doesn't cover office visit's so I hate to run back over to see her if there isn't anything she can do to help.

You might want to go to another doctor who specializes in that stuff.
A few years ago I was having pain between my ankle and my leg. I went to my primary care physician who referred me to a sports medicine specialist(I jog daily). He diagnosed me with tendonitis. He made me stop running for 6 weeks(just about killed me), gave me a prescription for Naproxen, and sent me to Physical Therapy, 2x a week for as long as I needed. I think it ended up being 8 weeks. At PT they would have me do stretches and exercises, gave me ultrasound treatments, and gradually got me working on the foot again, and strengthening it. Its been almost 3 years and I havent had any recurrances, thank goodness.
Good luck!

I have an orthopedic doctor I have gone to in the past for my knee. Would I see that type of doctor for tendonitis?

If the diagnosis is tendonitis, then your primary care doctor can do everything the above poster mentioned and it would be cheaper than seeing a specialist.

Since your primary doctor did not take you seriously, go see a orthopedic doctor. He may order an MRI just to make sure nothing is torn. If it is "just" tendonitis, he will probally prescribe an anti-inflamitory and some PT.

I believe that was the title he had. It was a group of doctors that have a "sports" practice, but I think anyone can go to them. They were also able to take xrays right there at the office, to be sure nothing was broken or anything like that.
