Tendering on Eastern?

You dock in St. Maarten, but St. Thomas seems to depend on the week. Last week we docked in St. Thomas

Dock in St. Maarten and we tendered in St. Thomas. I think it may depend on the time of year whether you tender or dock. We were in January.

Same for us last March.

We tendered in St. Thomas on our February 19th eastern cruise. It's no big deal and quite convenient if you just want to do some shopping.

It appears tendering is done on a rotation with each cruise ship taking a turn.

Within a month or so of your cruise you can find the schedules of ships at St. Thomas docks. Check out Dave's DCL cruise sites for links. They may show the schedules. We docked at Havensite once and had to tender on another trip. There was a huge number of ships in port that day. The tendering was a real hassle, took a long time and we made it to our excursion quite late. Not sure, they claimed it was due to a Northern swell at Trunk Bay, but we did not get to St John on the Leylon Sneed, but went to Little St. James, which was closer, instead. We sat in the theater a long time waiting for enough custom's agents to board and clear the ship. Lots of meeting times for the excursions came and went with folks getting quite upset, but all DCL excursions were held.

Just back from our March 19-26 eastern cruise and we docked at both islands. At St. Thomas we docked at the new "dock", they have two. I think that it depends on when your ship arrives whether you will dock or not. I didn't see any ships being tendered...2 ships were at our "dock" and I believe there were 4 ships at the old dock. If you could choose a dock, hope for the old one where all the shops are. The new dock is so new that there are no shops there yet.

Tendering or docking is decided well ahead of time....it's not first come, first served. Each cruise ship takes its turn tendering.
