DH has some back issues and never seems to sleep soundly. My mattress is about 16 years old and should probably be replaced. I wonder if anyone has experience with the Tempurpedic mattress. I know they are very expensive.

We got the Ergo, spent $6000 and I now sleep on my old mattress. The Memory Foam is just too hot for me. Even with the cooling mattress pad, I just cook on it.

That was the one issues I've read about it.

We thought we might like one so went to a store and lay around on one for awhile.
DH said that once he was settled on it he couldn't move again. And to both of us, the edges didn't give enough support so we felt like we were going to roll off the side (we're both edge sleepers). We ticked those style beds off our list.

I suggest you go and lie on some beds for a while. Wear clothes that will allow you to roll around and turn over. Don't skimp on time.

I am always hot when I sleep so I know there is no way I could ever sleep on one. Have you tried a pillow top? Ours helped me for awhile. Sorry to say I am back to sleeping on our recliner.

Our current bed is a high end pillow top but 16 years old now.

I like my Tempurpedic, but it does sleep hot. You can't really get a feel for it in the showroom since it has to break in to your shape/weight. My next one may be one of theirs with the cooling gel. If they offer the free in-home trial, you might go for that, but make sure that includes free return. I can't remember if it did when I bought mine.

We loved the feel of the Tempur Pedic but couldn't handle the price tag. While at Sam's Club we found they had a memory foam mattress for the fraction of the price. We went with that and a memory foam topper from Sam's Club. The reviews we read online said that the combo of the two was darn close to the feel of a Tempur Pedic. The mattress was a Serta brand, I believe (I remember the sheep on the box!) and the topper was something else...

We've had this combo now for a couple of years and we both LOVE it. My husband is always hot but the memory foam hasn't been a problem for him, even on these hot days we've been having and no A/C. We've both had back problems in the past and for the first time sleeping is comfortable for both of us. It is a different feel to a traditional mattress, but because of how it conforms to your body, you don't toss and turn like on a normal mattress. It also really does act like those commercials with the wine glass and jumping on the bed... I'll have a big stack of laundry on the bed and I've laid down on the other side and the stack never tips over! It means I never feel DH moving at night... now if it would only cure him of his snoring it would be PERFECT! :)
