TEMPORARY Refrigerator Removal from WDW Resorts

Okay.
Pillows then. Or a tv
AC is not really a necessity for everyone

This is fun. Headed to the World soon?

I could easily live without the TV on vacation, can't speak for the rest of my family. :lmao:

And yes, AC is considered a necessity. If Disney knew that an AC unit wasn't working, they wouldn't put a guest in that room.

My wife hates AC. I love my house freezing

I just called Disney to put the request in for a fridge (non-medical). The Rep knew nothing about the $15 per night compensation should they be unable to provide a fridge.

I will believe the compensation when we start hearing from those guest that receive it. Until then, I'm preparing for the cooler & ice route.

One is a necessity and one is not, unless you have medical issues, which Disney is addressing. If you don't have a fridge, you can use ice. If you don't have an air conditioner, it isn't like you can bring one from home or have one delivered to the resort for your stay.

Same with bed, toilet and shower.

I'm sure you could probably go buy a fan or have one delivered. Or check it with your luggage. Just like people assume we can all just go out and buy a cooler or pay to check it for those of us who are flying and won't have a car.

We are flying in &so a cooler is not really an option & we need a fridge so I called WDW & the CM told me that they are switching out the fridges in the rooms, but only in the rooms that are not occupied. She flat out said that we would have a fridge in Pop Century at the end of August...

I really hope she is correct!!

Obviously Disney, like most people, don't consider the loss of a fridge the same as the loss of AC, since they wouldn't put someone in a room where the AC didn't work.

Yeah, I could go buy a fan, in fact, I had to last year when we rented a condo and the AC went out for a couple of days. Not a big deal, we all survived, just as all of you will survive without a fridge, if none are available.

I'd be shocked to learn that anyone ever died carrying a bucket of ice back to their room, but I guess it's possible.

Boo to no fridges! Normally we only use ours for zebra domes, but that's oddly a pretty big deal to us lol

I think your sarcasm is uncalled for. People such as ourselves leave in 5 days and planned around having a refrigerator in the room for such things as milk and yogurt. If it isn't available, it does create an inconvenience that could have been avoided if the room wasn't listed as having one.

A fire in your room would be a bit more inconvenient.

It's Disney, I'm sure they will do everything they can to minimize the inconvenience.

As I've said in above posts on this thread, this isn't a vacation-ruiner for us, but we definitely deserve the right to be annoyed and to look at the lack of a "supposed to be included" amenity as an inconvenience.

Really? We already have to pay $50 for checked bags. I don't think we really want to pay $50 for a cooler to store our cold items that we can no longer store in the fridge that was supposed to be included in the cost of our room. And it's not the money, it's the principle. Yes, safety first. However, they've got to figure out a way to handle this better. I'm still going to give them a little time to work out the kinks since this just broke yesterday.

Okay, I said check a cooler as your luggage, not in addition to it. No extra charge - the same $25 each way as any other checked bag. Your airline might allow odd-shaped checked bags; Southwest will take hardsidedcoolers as long as they meet the linear restrictions and are taped closed.

I do agree with you on that! But at least it is one that you can work around with a bit of effort. I like the looks of that cooler jrmasm posted the link to.

Well if you paid for a water view room and got a standard room view at check-in would'nt you be entitled to a refund of the difference? I hope there is a freg vs. the $15 a night credit, but if there is not, the credit will suffice. I will come out better money wise with the freg but I will accept it and go on.:thumbsup2

Refrigerator room isn't a bookable category, or even a category. There's no upcharge for a room with a refrigerator, so it's reasonable there'd be no compensation for a room without one. And what's a freg?

Disney has stated that they will be giving guests who request a refrigerator a $15 credit per night if they do not have a working refrigerator for them when they arrive.

Is that in writing somewhere? I would like to print and take with me.

So here's my live chat:

Me: I've heard a lot about refrigerators being pulled from guest rooms and replaced. I'm staying at Port Orleans French Quarter in August and wondering if I will have a fridge in the room.

Bernie: I'll be happy to point you in the right direction.

Bernie: You may or may not. The refrigerators are being pulled immediately but it will take a couple of months for the replacements to be put in place.

Me: So when do I find out if I will or will not?

Bernie: Further details are not available. This is a developing situation.

Me: So no info at all? Will I know before I arrive? And if one's not available, are there any other arrangements being made? When I booked the room, it did include a refrigerator.

Bernie: The resorts are working to address the issue but beyond total replacements will take a couple of months we have not received further information.

Me: Will there be any compensation if I don't have a fridge in my room as promised?

Bernie: I would hope further information will be available closer to your travel dates.

Yeah, that was helpful......:lmao:

So just so it's clear - Bernie gave you all the information the chat CMs have available to offer, but wouldn't put anything in writing that isn't official but might obligate Disney down the road and wouldn't give you the answer you want?

Wait...pack our clothes, etc in the cooler?
My airline (Delta this time) charges $25 per checked item per trip

Cooler would add $50

Using Garden Grocer or Amazon would be the way to go

I am psyched. No more in room cereal. Mickey Waffles every day!!!! Whoo hooo!

No up charge for TVs, sheets, or windows

The fridges were listed as an amenity when I booked
