If someone is given temporary full custody of a child (other parent is in jail), can they cross state line for a vacation?
Not me so I don't know the full story. Just trying to get some incite.

A lot depends on the Order. Is there anything in it that prohibits taking the child across state lines? Will it interfere with any scheduled visitation? I would get permission from the court if there's any concern.

The other parent is in jail, so who is gonna object?

That was my first thought too. Generally, custody orders are written and enforced based on the interactions of the two parents involved. If there's no one to complain about the order possibly being violated, I can't see how any issue would even arise.

If someone is given temporary full custody of a child the court order will explain exactly what can and cannot be done.
Without knowing the full story the best incite you can get is; it depends on the court order.

Just because a parent is in jail doesn't mean that he/she gives up any parental rights, unless the Court has taken them away. Person in jail can still file an objection to their child leaving the state. The temporary custody order could have a visitation component to it, and taking the child away on vacation might make the parent in jail miss time with the child.

You're right. But my response was real world response where a parent in jail probably wont have a clue and probably has more pressing battles at hand.

Are they the parent of the child or is the child in foster or kinship care? If they are the parent then absent a visitation order there are no issues. If the child is in foster/kinship care usually the caseworker can sign off on visits out of the state. When we were foster parents we took multiple kids out of state. Every time we had to get permission from the case worker and usually she sent us a letter to carry with her contact info etc in case there was an issue. The parents also had to give permission for visits outside of day trips. That sometimes proved more difficult
