Tell me your thoughts about "The Secret"

I just started ballet again, last nite, for the first time in 20 years! I had been thinking about it on & off for a while, but, until this month, I was locked into a gym membership (that I barely used,) that was making auto-deductions from my credit card for the last 3 years. So I didn't have the funds to take any other kinds of classes. (I also want to try pilates & yoga.) I realised, it was work to get me to go to the gym, whereas I love to dance! I can get the same resistance body conditioning from the barre exercises that I would get from any gym machine.

I used to happily go to dance classes 3 times a week without needing to drag myself there, like I did to the gym. I looked forward to dance class and felt so up & energised afterwards. I could have danced another two hours after class. Often I did. My friends would sneak me into bars after class so we could go dancing. :yay:

So a while back, I had Googled "Adult beginner ballet class" & found two places I was really interested in (when my gym membership would finally be up.) I carefully read over the course descriptions and both said that at absolutely NO time is there ever any advanced students or professional dancers allowed in (to make up another class,) to watch, criticise or shame us, or that we'd just feel like ugly duckings dancing next to them. That description was critically important, as a "beginner" dance class here in NYC could actually mean a "beginner Broadway professional" class made up of people who are beginners in the professional realm & have been dancing since diapers.

These classes are for adults, a safe environment, and at a level & speed for us in our "adult" bodies, who haven't danced or moved in a while, or may have physical problems - like a bad knee or tweaky hip. I later learned that dance training has changed over the decades. As kinesiology, (the study of movement,) has become a real science, they've found those 50 grand plies (deep knee bends) I used to have to do every class as a kid, is precisely why many retired dancers today have back & knee problems as adults today. :wave2:

I just happened to check one website again and the class calendar said "coincidentally" :rolleyes1 a new series of classes was starting the next day! The next series after, wasn't going to begin till January. It barely took a second to decide, "Oh, I'm starting class tomorrow nite!" No way was I putting my life on hold till January. Other than making extra plans to buy dance wear, I didn't hem & haw & have to think it over much. That's how right it felt. :cool1:

After class, I emailed a friend about it. Of all people, I knew he'd understand. He is a former, professional ballroom dancer. He's been burnt out the last several years, after competitively dancing. He's been thinking about teaching ballroom again. (That's also another type of dancing I've been wanting to learn, too!) He actually took himself out salsa dancing recently, not to teach anyone, but just to have fun dancing again. It was also the first time for him in years. If I can get him to give me a private lesson, so I have the salsa moves down, and he doesn't have to be teaching me, we can go salsa dancing together for fun! :cool1:

Since class, I have felt great and happy all day today. I took back a part of my life that I missed & loved. :cool1: I realized I was literally out of my mind; to think I used to drag myself to the gym to powerwalk on a treadmill with my iPod, when I could have been dancing instead! I won't make that mistake again!

When you get the choice to sit it out or dance:
I Hope You Dance!
:dance3:

~ Artist: Lee Ann Womack ~

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance:

I hope you dance....I hope you dance.

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin' might mean takin' chances but they're worth takin',
Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makin',
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin' out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance:

I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance:

Dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance..

This is great!! I love to dance! Around here its pretty much dancing for kids...not much else. I am however starting up yoga on October 20! I'm so psyched up for it. My friend Stacey (she's a very spiritutal uplifting kind of girl!) does Yoga, Reiki and such (I think I mentioned that). Anyhow she's always game for anything and I told her that I think she should take belly dance classes and show us how to do it (I think belly dancing is awesome and great for your abs too). She's thinking about it:)

I actually had a down in the dumps day yesterday...but I pulled myself out of it.

I am actually planning out next vacation (I am an over planner, but it makes me happy, lol)...so I'm really looking forward to that.

Something to think about:
By design, whenever you have a new dream, or re-commit to an old one, at that precise moment everything in your life is perfectly suited to bring it about even faster than if you had thought of it earlier.

You are always where you most "need" to be.

I loved the quote, Brenda!! This is good stuff!!

Bring new value to life
It's natural to be negative. But that doesn't mean you have to let negativity control your life.
It's normal to worry. But worry accomplishes nothing, and you have much better ways to use your time and your energy.

The situation you're in could get a lot worse. And yet, it is just as likely to get a lot better.

You don't know what the future will bring. So your best strategy is to make full and positive use of the present.

The way to do that is by allowing your positive expectations to guide and to focus your positive actions. The best opportunities often arise when it seems that there won't ever be any more opportunities.

This is a day when you can make real progress. Turn toward the goal, let your expectations put a smile on your face, and bring new value to life right now.

-- Ralph Marston

I love that! I have this on my desktop that I look at daily:

We just played that unlock the cookie game and it took us over 11 minutes to get that unlocked, lol.

Imzadi- :dance3: How great to pick up dancing again!

Disneynut- we just decided on dates for our next WDW trip, but can't book til Feb., and I am already planning planning. ;)

NEWS FLASH: I got the transfer!!! :cool1: I will now have a 5 minute commute to work, work shorter hours, have more time with my DD and DH, and save $$$ on gasoline!!!! I start next Monday! I am thrilled- I really feel like this is the right move, even though I'm going to miss the ladies I work with now (I'll still see them, though- same company and all). Thank you for all of your positive energy!

AND- I am reading "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" (I was inspired by my planner! :lmao: ). What a great book! I have been really thinking about my personal mission statement and a family mission statement. And they (FranklinCovey) have corresponding planner pages themed around the 7 habits (how helpful is that?) AND- FranklinCovey ALSO makes "health" planner pages, where you can keep track of your foods, water intake, make notes, etc!! :woohoo: I feel like I hit the jackpot I was so excited to find that out!

Somewhat OT- anyone see the computer "PC" commercial where Deepak Chopra says "I am Being" :lmao: It makes me laugh and then I think of you guys! :goodvibes

How do you let go of something you can't have and that really isn't good for you anyways, but you really, really want? How do you use the Secret in that situation? I feel like I am stuck in an unhealthy situation because I can't let go.

Uh oh! Is this in regards to the high school teaching position? I've been wondering about you & how that has been turning out. I remember you'd prefer to teach a different age group and were at a different school. Has it been a rough transition?

I'll have to check into this planner, did you get it online?

No, I bought the planner itself at office max, but I wish I had bought it online- I think I would have saved money overall. Plus they have more selections.

You can get a catalog for free at their website- I highly reccommend it!

I just found the 7 habits pages, they are $39.95 just for the pages. I have a bid on ebay for a binder, so once I get the binder I'll order the pages.

To answer your question, Imzadi, no, it's not about my job. I'm adjusting to my new job...I don't love it like my old job, but it's not bad. It's something else I'm trying to let go of and move away from some emotions in that situation that are hurting me, but it's hard to let go of.

The only thing about this job at the high school-there's not as much camaraderie and I'm lonely, but I've also been trying to cope with this other situation. I just want to wake up in the morning with a feeling of peace and contentment and I haven't had that in forever.

First, let's address loneliness. Wayne Dyer says that you are always alone, but you are lonely only if you don't like the person you are with. Whether that is the case or not, this could be a good time in your life to focus on you. Take this time to meditate, exercize, get a massage. Really, really turn inward. Find out who you are and what you want. Don't focus on the external, focus on the internal right now.

Second, I'm not sure what your issue is, but it sounds like you are really hurting. You have to make every effort to not dwell on this issue. The more you do, the more of this negative energy you will draw towards yourself.

Think opposite. If your situation regards a past lover or friend, then focus on you. If it is financial, focus on abundance. Each day, write down a couple of things you are grateful for that are opposite of what you are holding on to.

Examples:
Past relationship? Be grateful for the new students you are meeting, their parents, new collegues, having the time to focus on you.
Finances? Be grateful for having a job, for paying a bill, for having abundance in your life.
Things you don't have? Be grateful for what you do have.
Health issues? Focus on what works right on your body.

Anytime, you find yourself dwelling on the thing stop. Say to yourself "Hush, baby, hush." and immediately focus on something else. Sing a song. Focus on your breathes. Stare at trees or flowers. Recite poetry or words from a movie. Do anything to move you away from that negative thought.(Note: Our wonderful Reverend recommended the "Hush, Baby, Hush" to me. Yelling at your inner voice to "Shut up" or "Stop" is too harsh and negative. Say the words with love and patience.)

This takes time and patience. You must make this a habit. You have to stop the thought immediately. Once you do this enough times, you will rewire your brain to refocus when you say the words "Hush, Baby, Hush" or whatever words work best for you.

Next, lean on us as much as possible. We are here to support you. Share with us what you feel most comfortable with. We won't judge you.

If any of you recall, I recently joined the Columbus Center for Spiritual Living which is a New Thought church focusing on Science of Mind. (SOM)

Every quarter, they offer classes. The first class is Foundations of SOM. Well, even though I have enough money and I allow what I already have enough of to flow to me, I did not want to choose to pay for the class at this time in my life. Well, I had a copy of the class description and I would read it. I tried not to want it. I just read it and said what a wonderful class. I will have to take it in the future. Well, the youth class has been growing and the youth teacher needs assistants to help with the kids. So the Foundations class was offered free to anyone who signed up to assist with the Kids. The Foundations class is 10 weeks so you would need to commit to assisting 10 times over the next year!!

Well, I signed up. Chose my dates to assist in the youth classes and am now taking the Foundations class.

Our first class was great. The first thing we did was define God. This is a problem for me. Having been raised around a strictly religious family who were all very narrow minded, I have an image of God as an angry, old man in the sky smiting people. When I read Dyer, Chopra, etc, I have to put the word Consciousness or Universe in place of the word God. I have even scribbled out the word God and written something else. If I didn't, I couldn't move on and absorb the meaning of whatever I was reading. To me, God was kind of a dirty word.
So here we are in our first class defining God. I now have a new image of God not as a person, but as a Spiritual energy which connects all of us together. Our class has over 20 people who nearly all have similar backgrounds. I told my DH that we all sound like we are in therapy. ;)

I have been floating on air all week. I just love the class, love the church, love this thread, love all of you...

Tonight is our second class. We will be discussing the Creative Process which is planting the seed (desire), nurturing it (affirmations, gratitudes, believing it), and watching it grow (manifest). We will also be learning how to write meaniful affirmations.

One of the things we had to do for homework last week is to write a letter to ourselves. Our writing is to feel as if we have already completed the class. We are to write what has manifested in our lives, how we feel, and how we have grown. Our letter is to be put in a sealed Self-addressed stamped envelope. Our letters will be prayed over. After all 10 weeks, they will be mailed back out to us. I can't wait!!

Thanks, JodyLyn. The other thing that I've been saying to myself is something I got from a Diane Sawyer interview with Randy (Last Lecture) and his wife about his cancer and impending death. She talked to his wife, and Diane asked how she kept from falling apart. She said she had been to a counselor, and he taught her one thing to do: Whenever she focused on thoughts of his death or what would happen after, or when thoughts overwhelmed her, she was to repeat, "Not helpful". So, that's what I've been doing to stop myself...I stop and say "Not helpful right now".

It works in the short term anyways.

Good Morning!!!

How is everyone today? I am going ziplining today here:
