Tell me your thoughts about "The Secret"

I was reading a Budget Board thread a few days ago, where the OP was afraid to ask what the hourly salary rate is before scheduling an interview. She didn't want a job that offered only minimum wage, but was afraid to ask the rate. She got a whole slew of answers, opinions & reasonings on whether she should ask or to say that she shouldn't.

Then another poster mentioned she was offered the opportunity of a job as a receptionist for a vet(which she had prior experience for,) but they wanted her to come in and work for FREE for several hours, to test out the fit. :eek: It didn't sound like it was a "work two hours and let's see how it goes." That poster didn't want to, but wasn't sure if she should do it or not.

It seemed to me that this company could get several people to work for free, :rolleyes1 before finally deciding on someone. :sad2: If they test out ten people for two hours each, that is a free 20 hour, part time work week they got for free. Who knows if they don't do this several times a year, (having a high turnover,) and just "happen" to get a lot of free work in between hirings, which equates to several free weeks of work, each year. It also smacked to me of a whole lot of people who would undervalue themselves & their time to do this, for the chance of being hired. :eek:

I bring this thread up, not to bash people, but, in my opinion only, and for our purposes on this thread, I was so saddened to read so many people who seemed to have such an attitude and belief of scarcity and lack: that there just isn't enough jobs out there or that they can't secure a wonderful job meant for them, that they felt they couldn't ask a basic question of what the general salary rate might be, or that they had so little self worth that they felt they needed to work for free, to prove themselves before before being hired. What kind of company needs to test out that many people? That has red flag all over it, as far as I'm concerned. While the job does require precision filing medical charts, we're not talking about doing actual brain surgery.


Years ago, I was talking about not having enough money to do something I really wanted to do. A friend said something that has stuck with me and has formed the basis of many of the decisions I make in life: "Never make decisions based on scarcity and lack." She went on to illustrate that haven't there been times where I just wanted or needed to do something that I didn't have money for and set it as a priority to make it work, no matter what, and came up with the money to do it? Often, the jobs or opportunities then fell into my lap to make it work. :cool1: :scratchin

In fact, that actually happened with the project I spoke about a few posts back. I actually inquired about a week long project I knew about. I know the boss & worked with him before, but the timing & logistics didn't work out for both of us, (it actually started a couple days earlier than anticipated,) so the project fell through. As my underlying belief and attraction system is to work great jobs for lots of money, I was offered & hired for a better job for me, for only 3 days of work! :cool1:

It goes back to the von Goethe quote someone else mentioned pages ago, "Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now."

Many people here on the DIS will prioritize their lives in such a way as to make 2 or 3 trips down to Disney because it is such a value and benefit in to their lives. Why can't we prioritize our jobs, careers, relationships, and home lives in such a way, that the thoughts of scarcity & lack are wiped out & replaced with thoughts of abundance, self respect & deserving? That we can truly use the Law of Attraction to make our lives work?

Then, such questions as asking in a polite way, "By the way, what is the salary range for this position?" wouldn't be such a monumental problem. If it turns out to be far less than what we want, we can say, equally as pleasantly, "Oh, I'm sorry I am not interested in a position of that salary. I'm glad we both found that out in time, so both of our times aren't wasted in an unnecessary interview." Then both people can walk away with their dignities intact. This or something better now manifests for the highest good of ALL concerned. :goodvibes

When you aren't living in an attitude of lack, you won't be paralysed in an encounter, thinking it's the only possibility out there for you.

I was recently reminded of a question, by a fellow friend, who just finished up doing nine events over the past three weeks. He asks his participants: “How will you use your greatest natural talents to do the work you are passionate about, leading you to your monumental goals in life?”

If they are your natural talents, meaning they were gifted to you by God / The Creator, wouldn't (s)he want you to have and be able to do what (s)he created those gifts in you for? :scratchin

I had already watched the Secret DVD and one by Wayne Dyer, but everyone's insights really hit home with me. Thank you to all posters. Right now, I'm reading "Be Who You Want, Have What You Want" for more inspiration on adopting these principles in my life.

I stumbled across a cool book on Barnes & Noble- it's called Even Mystics Have Bills to Pay by Jim Rosemergy. If you look it up, and click on the "Features" tab, you can read a sample of a chapter. It definitely seems to fit in with our conversations we've had about finances. I think I'm going to get a copy.
 
Dreamin- I have thought about getting that book. It will have to go on my "List of Books to buy" (which I just started on my computer because I am compiling a LOT of books that I'd like to read- I feel like I'm behind!)

I have been a lurker here for a while, hesitating to post much like I hesitate to meet new people. I have just read the Family Circle Answer Book article "The Simple Secrets of Happiness" which encourages us to step out of our comfort zone, embrace the new and associate with people who can inspire and challenge us. Basically, they think of 100 reasons why something might go wrong. And all of those thoughts then struggle to become things, sometimes overriding their more constructive thoughts.

It's like a train wreck. Ain't pretty. But that's the power of worry.

Now, let's say you want something fantastic to manifest in your life. Hypothetically, let's say you want a working on it.

Have you sat down yet and listed 100 reasons why it might come to you easily, fast, and harmoniously?

I think you should.

Well, it's almost official- we're booking our trip for the end of Sept./early Oct. to WDW!!!! I am so excited I can hardly stand it. And the little voice in my head keeps wanting to be negative (something will go wrong, what if we can't afford it). But, I am doing my best to tell myself that THAT voice does not have my best interests at heart.

Worry is very different from troubleshooting, which is actively looking for a problem to solve, really doing something about it, then letting it go afterwards. It doesn't mean not monitoring a situation, but it has a different energy & attitude. It's based on disaster, not mindfulness.

Everything we do benefits us in some way. Even if the overall outcome is negative, at the time we are doing it, somewhere in our psyche, we think it is benefiting us somehow. People tend to think worry is a positive activity, keeping an eye out for something that could go wrong. Emotionally preparing for the worst, so you don't feel let down when the unexpected does happen. But worry is actually self abuse. It is very un-self loving.

If you plan a trip a trip for the end of Oct and worry the whole time for the next 6 weeks, all you've done is make yourself agitated & miserable that 6 weeks. And you've done it to yourself. :eek:
Beyond a certain point, you really can't plan out the unexpected. That's the game of life and the cards that are dealt. You could have been happy, joyful, or peaceful & calm during those 6 weeks, up until the disaster instead. But you robbed yourself of that. The point of power is in the NOW.

Four days ago, we marked a very monumental day 7 years since September 11. Whether it's because it happened in my city, or in all the self work I've done, the events of that day effect a lot of the decisions I make on a daily basis.

It was an ordinary day like any other day, for everyone. The workers of the towers woke up and went about doing their normal activities. They didn't know that at 8:46 the first plane would hit. In the 1 hr 42 minutes from the time the first plane hit, to the time the second tower fell, the decisions those people made, whether to walk up or down the stairs, determined whether they lived or died.

It was an ordinary day. You just don't know when death is coming. None of us are immune. Any one of those people who died would give anything to be alive, worrying in your shoes, for these past 7 years, while you fritter it away in moments of worry. Any one of their relatives would give anything to even be able to plan for a trip to WDW with their loved ones, if only for a moment. Those opportunities are gone for them forever.

What normal activities do you put in your ordinary day? :grouphug: All you have is NOW.
