Tell me your favorite and least favorite dishes (any ship, any meal)

No Complaints from ME. I don't have to make a menu, go shopping, cook or clean up afterwards - so it all tastes GREAT to me ::yes::

I LOVE desserts, but am not really a fan of them in the MDR's or "Cabanas / Topsiders / Beach Blanket". However in the Cove Cafe on the classic ships - the little desserts in the glass case (still free) are very good.

my rule is that anything with mango is delicious, especially that mango thing they have at breakfast (I have gotten it at table service breakfast, on the Wonder they had it at Goofy's Galley and on the Fantasy they had it in Cabanas).

Love the Mango Mountain Hike and Tugboat. Wish they were available all day at Goofy's Galley. The mango quinoa at Carocia's is absolutely delicious too!

I've seen a lot of people mention the desserts as not being great (with a few exceptions) but no one goes into detail. What don't you like about them?

(I can, to a certain extent, take or leave sweets, but I'm not sure how I would qualify them...I guess for something to be not-great to me, it would have to be way too sweet, or combining flavors I didn't like, or obviously made with super cheap ingredients.)

The desserts are just okay. I always order something each night but there is nothing I really look forward to or order extra of. The only ones I really enjoy is the rum soaked chocolate cake (with a scoop of ice cream) on pirate night and the baked Alaska. But if they ran out of them I wouldn't be disappointed. I have a huge sweet tooth so I love a good dessert. For me it's good in a way because of the lack of good desserts I don't gain any weight on the cruises ;)

I wouldn't say the food is Applebee's or Olive Garden quality. I would say it's a little better. To us it's more like wedding or banquet food. They make it massive quantities so it's not going to be 5 star but we always find something we like. Like PP stated it may be because for a week I don't have to prep and cook the food and clean after that makes me enjoy it more;)

I LOVED the Crème Brule! It was amazing and do to dietary limitations, I was able to have it for dessert every night!

Another vote for the Grand Marnier Souffle from Royal Court (Fantasy). We have a Palo dinner scheduled on that same RC MDR night in a couple of months (assuming our dining rotation request actually gets honored), and I'm already trying to figure out how to get the soufflé at some point that night (or another).

My favorite entrée is the sea bass from Enchanted Garden. Looks like they might have changed it up just a bit (once had a fava bean and pea risotto with a sweet chili glaze drizzled around the edge of the plate), but there is still some version of it, so I'm planning for that to be my night to indulge and request a duplicate entrée.

My favorite appetizer was the Cioppino (seafood stew) at Palo. To be honest, the description on the menu really had no appeal to me at all. However, our waiter was really good about asking what we liked and disliked, and he recommended it. Throwing caution to the wind, I went ahead with it, and it turned out to be possibly my favorite thing that I ate over the course of the seven-day voyage. Lesson learned: trust the Palo servers (undoubtedly the same for Remy, although we didn't eat there).

I will agree with another poster that the Pirate Night menu could use some serious help. Our daughter absolutely loves the pineapple/coconut/banana appetizer ("Buccaneer's Sun-Ripened..." thing), but other than that, we could all pretty easily skip that menu, except for the fact that we just love the general atmosphere and want to be a part of it, even if not the best menu of the week.

I was really disappointed with the Baked Lobster on our recent cruise on the Fantasy. Had a great rib eye steak at Cabanas one night.

The Grilled Portobello Mushrooms and Polenta at Palo was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Ever.

I totally agree about the desserts. The ones at the buffets and the MDRs are just "meh", nothing bad but rather bland. The best desserts, after Palo and Remy of course, are found in the Cove and Vista Cafes!

If you saw me you would think to yourself ... "There's a guy that loves his desserts" and you would be correct.

and I am a chocoholic - just ask my coworkers:thumbsup2

First: the descriptions sound really good. Secondly they LOOK really good. And then you take a bite and usually they just really don't taste as awesome as they look. There's no "pizzazz" to the taste and textures. There's more flavors in the "paint with jams" that they decorate the plates with to make them look fancy / pretty.

Palo Souffle is Awesome. So are the other Palo desserts.

I guess that I DO like sweet. Why do I eat cake .... for the FROSTING. Give me a bowl of Carrot Cake or German Chocolate Cake Frosting and I'm a happy camper.

I was really disappointed with the Baked Lobster on our recent cruise on the Fantasy. Had a great rib eye steak at Cabanas one night.

Last sailing the first night I asked mu head server if I could have my lobster steamed with a baked potato (I grew up in RI). I ordered two tails and they made it happen. Absolutely delicious.

I enjoy:
Lobster ravioli (app)
Prime rib
Shrimp cocktail
Escargot (usually get a couple of those)
Salmon
Lobster (I usually get a steak & then split a lobster tail with someone at the table, the amount I eat is good)
Bahama Mama (best drink)
Pizza from Pinocchio's (magic/wonder) seems better than the pizza at Luigi's dream/fantasy)

that popcorn soup is super gross. the food in the MDRs to me is usually just ok, occasionally something tremendous. everything from remy has been fabulous, like palo but not to the extent most people here do. DH loves the escargot and pretty much every menu item and has a weird fondness for the chicken strips from room service. i'm vegetarian, i like all the vegan entrees and there is one tofu one i love. also, i could live off of eggs florentine and roasted tomatoes on the dream class ships' breakfast buffet.

oh yeah - i discovered lattes with booze for breakfast on the alaskan cruises! cafe gates! yum!!!

Mango Mountain Hike is what it is called they also have a Berry Tugboat one, but I agree the mango one is the best. I love them, I forgot to ask for the recipe.

The ones at the buffet are almost all passable. They all look yummy, but they have very little flavor. The desserts at the main dining rooms have always been delicious.

I guess this must be why I hear more people talk about Mickey bars and self serve ice cream than any particular dessert.

(I've never had a Mickey bar, but on the rare occasion I eat an ice cream bar it's usually a dove bar or a magnum (darn those things, I rue the day.) how do the Mickey bars compare, anyone?)

I have to say, we normally skip pirate night and go to Palo, but this time we were traveling with our 2 grandkids. They love pirate night a lot so we grinned and bared it and went to the MDR. I have to say it was just bad. There was not one appealing thing on the menu and what I ordered was just well yuck.
he crab cake appetizer was so fishy, I was done after one bite.

I agree with this. My least favorite.

I enjoyed many dishes and meals. I don't remember a specific dish that stood out though. I will try on our cruise next month to try to remember.

I agree with another poster that said the desserts were the least favorite. I am a dessert person and have a major sweet tooth, there was not one dessert that was amazing, they were just OK, beautiful presentation though. Oh well better for me!! ;)

I really like the Mickey ice cream bars. The chocolate is not like dove or magnum, but the ice cream is so creamy it so good! :)

That's so interesting (and odd) about the desserts. I wonder why that would be. It's relatively easy to make desserts that appeal to everyone. I know they are making stuff en masse but that doesn't mean it has to be flavorless. So the chocolate stuff doesn't taste chocolatey, and so on?
