So my dad suprised me last week with a trip to WDW next month. I thought I wasn't going to be able to go again until December, so I was thrilled. We got a great code rate at POR, so I thought things were set. But then I did a little research and I was able to secure a teacher discount at the Dolphin. I am beyond excited! I have stayed in the Epcot area twice not and it is my favorite. My dad has never stayed there and he is realy looking forward to it! So I need all of you Dolphon vets. to tell my why I am going to love my stay there! Also what are some special things at the resort that are not to be missed?

Hey Melissa~~How awesome is that? A surprise trip to Disney! Personally, I love everything about the Dolphin (especially the oatmeal and glycerin soaps) and the beds are soooo comfortable. They also have a 24 hour cafeteria that is convenient for all those midnight snack attacks. To me nothing is better than watching Illuminations and taking a nice stroll back to your hotel. Have a Magical trip! :goodvibes

We stayed at the Dolphin in April and I LOVED it. Not as much Disney theming (which could be a plus or a minus I guess), but the location was outstanding, the rooms were so nice, the bed heavenly, and I loved the boat ride to MGM or Epcot. We had a regular room with no upgraded view, but we looked out towards the boat dock area and I thought it was nice (better than the parking-lot view at some Disney deluxes). The cafeteria was convenient and good--we liked it better than the quick service at other Disney hotels.

We chose this hotel because of the price (we also had a discount), and I really felt like we got a terrific bargain--a deluxe at a moderate price.

I was wondering the same thing as the OP. So far the answer seems to be location. Since there are nearby Disney owned/operated hotels with an even better location, why would the Swolphin be a better choice?

Better location than the Swan/Dolphin? It is a perfect location, just as good at BC/YC/BWI :)

The thing is that they have a fantastic rates at these hotels - AAA is $189 in early December, which is $100 less than BC/YC/BWI.. And at other times of the year they have incredible rates ....$125...but the difference between the S/D and Disney resorts is that S/D release discounted rates months ahead of time and will run specials - then as lower rates sell out it keeps moving up available rates until it reach rack rate.

So, cost and location!! :)

p.s. The rooms have a beachy theme. Very nice - refurbished 2 years ago.

The "heavenly beds", the pool area, the lobby, the restaurants, the shops, the spa, oh, and did anyone mention the LOCATION? :goodvibes

It's not "in your face Disney"... it's the best of both worlds - a touch of "upscale hotel" with a touch of "Disney magic" sprinkled in....
