HELP! :confused3 Not only is DS my first child so everything is always an experience but he's HFA (among other things) as well introducing a whole new set of fun. He's 9 which I thought was a little early but this is what i was hit with at 5:40 this morning...

DS: mom, what are those things called again down by my bladder?

Me: Your kidneys?

DS: No, you know, down by my privates?

Me: They are your testicles Dalton. All boys have them. Have they been bothering you?

DS: Not bothering really, just different. What do they do? And why does my pee-pee stand straight up sometimes?

Me: (Panicking) Dalton, we need to finish getting ready, can I answer your questions later?

Bottom line, do you think that the onset of puberty affected your child more that a NT child? What should I expect? If you medicate, did it affect them?

As always any help is appreciated. :goodvibes I'm just not ready for this.

I say be honest with him and let him know there is a time and a place for everything involved. And that includes when it's a good time and a good place to ask questions! I think my 4 boys know more about a woman's body than maybe my husband!:rotfl: Anyway-I say honesty is best. And have his dad talk to him! Good luck.

:lmao: :lmao:

Yes, dear, your father will be happy to explain this all to you. ;)

We haven't gotten quite that far yet, but I'm finding the scientific approach is best. And hide those issues of Cosmo! :scared:

As for the big picture, I've been posting in the Behavior Challenge thread and while it's not the same exact situation (different diagnosis, different age... ) the hormonal aspect of puberty is definately playing into the situation, and it's not pleasant.

My son is 10 and he's going to get there soon I'm sure. I've noticed he is cranky and freaking out a bit more than usual. It also happens when the seasons change or he goes through a growth spurt.

He is not on meds, they don't work for him. I would expect some kinks with the meds though as hormones shift and a possible growth spurt.

my son is 15-he has down's.
i catch him in his room-very discreetly under his covers-
he only does it in his room so i can live with that.
He hasn't taken it all the way yet-kwim?:scared:

We limit what he sees on tv.
Try to practice some modesty in the bathroom-we have 1 for 2 adults and 3 teens:rotfl:

Thanks!

Yesterday was a snow day :cool1: so I'm just now getting to post. My husband heard the story and laughed hysterically.

Right now DS is just noticing that it's diffrent in the morning when he wakes up campared to the rest of the day. For example this morning he tells me very matter of fact, it's like there's cartilidge in there. I explained that while it's fine to share these "observations" with DH or myself, they are not appropriate to discuss at school. I can only imagine how that would go over with the very uptight pc parents.
