Tell Me, What Name Did You Choose for Your Cat, and Why

We have 3 cats.

Joey because he has big back feet like a kangaroo (they actually named him that at the shelter, but we liked it).
Clinger (because he clings to you)
Stormy (the night we got her, it poured!)

My cat's name is Tinkerbell. :) I wanted a Disney name and that was the only name the whole family could agree on. :)

Pumby - Puu Puu Shu - too funny!

Our cats are names Samson and Delilah. DH named them and they are brother and sister. Samson has turned into Sammy and then Fatboy. You wouldn't think two cats from the same litter would look so alike in coloring and different in "build." Delilah is a little tramp kitty. I have never seen such a glutton for affection.

We had a black and white cat once named Oreo. Our other cat at that time was BK (Big Kitty). The cat after those was named Twinkie. We once had a cat named Kitty and one named Muffin.

I guess we aren't very creative with names. But they ended up suiting each cat.

My cat's original name (and the "official" name on file at the vet's) is Barnabus - a friend came up with it - it was from the old show "Dark Shadows". Over time though, he became called "Little B", and that just stuck.

A year or so ago we had to have a cat put down - his name was Bledsoe, after Drew Bledsoe. DH is a Pats fan, and Bledsoe was still playing for them when we got the cat. He was a stray that DMIL wanted to give me, and DH finally relented on the condition that he got to name him. I agreed to the name Bledose after his aletrnative suggestion was sh**head.

Kitty. We had 2 other cats at the time we named her and we just couldnt think of any other name to suit her. She is now 9, and our only cat. The other 2 cats we had at the time, who are now in kitty heaven were sisters named SPOT and SPIKE. We adopted them from a family with 2 boys who really wanted dogs!

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!

I have 2 cats, one called Cheeky and the other called Figaro. Cheeky got his name as he was a stray. I went out to my car one day and there was a kitten on my drive who came up to me. So I bent down to stroke it and then went back into the house and shut the door. When I turned around he was in the hall behind me!! So I gave him some ham and he stayed! I found out where he had come from and the family said to keep him so we did. I called him Cheeky because that is what he is!
Figaro was given to me by one of the children who I teach at school (I did say I would have him as her cat had just had kittens) I couldn't decide on an name so I let my children suggest some. One girl suggested Figaro as that was what her can was called. I liked it as I have a music degree and I like the Mozart opera the Marriage of Figaro. Although I do call him Figgy more now.

Our cats are named Kilo, Lima, and Max

Husband's call name in the Airforce was Kilolima so he used that and since M was the next alphabet letter he chose Max for the boy.

We have nicknames for them too ;) Kilo is known as b!tch, Lima is Puker, and Max is bulldozer :)

China Cat Sunflower - This is a Grateful Dead song and since I am a fan, I thought it would fit my kitty. We just call her China. :)

JellyBean - This is a VERY long story. All the cats in my family have BEAN somewhere in the name. It all started with my dad & stepmom's cat Francis Bean - Then they acquired Mr. Bean & Sammy Bean. We got Jelly from them and Jelly is Francis Bean's neice. So my daughter liked Jelly Bean and it fit. We call her Jelly or Smellybean most of the time. ;) My brother has 2 cats as well and they are named Lima Bean & Green Bean.

Yes, we're all out of our minds.

I had two cats, but was forced to leave them behind when I left Daytona to move to Orlando. The first was a handsome yellow striped cat named Baxter Lewis. I named him Baxter as he ALWAYS meowed just like the cat in the Meow Mix commercials. "It's BAXTER!" My second kitty was a cute little black cat named Parker. We named him that since our last name was Lewis, and it would make him Parker Lewis from Parker Lewis Can't Lose. :)

Layla- because I love the song "Layla"

Mikey- he came with that name and he was already 4, so we did not want to change it.

Xena- like Xena Warrior Princess

Cougar- because he looks like a little cougar.

All my cats have passed away....but.....

Zach (Zachariah) was my first. Actually I got him for DH when we
were dating back in 1987. I just liked the name. He was a
brown tabby.

Romeo-was my first cat I got when I lived alone in an apartment
back in 1988. He was also a brown tabby....infact, Zachs
brother (but different litters obviously). I had that poor
cat for a little over 3 weeks and couldn't think of a name
One night, Romancing the Stone was on TV and the cat
in that movie was named Romeo....and I knew that was
"the name" (BTW, I have never watched that movie ever
I just happen to be flicking through and saw the part
where they called the cat by name)

Asti-I had his name picked out before I even got or saw him. He
was a cream color himilayan. I knew what color of cat I
wanted and I guess you can say, I was on an "asti-kick"
at that time....LOL!!!! The name really fit him though. Said
to say...he is one that died "suddenly" at age 6. Dr's
think it was an anerysm (sp).

Cassanova (Cass)-was a blue persian. My most lovable cat!!!
He was REALLY sick as a baby. I had to give him back
to the breeder a couple days after I picked him up.
She had to tube feed him and we really didn't think
that he was going to make it. After about 3 weeks
he started eating on his own....the breeder kept
saying he was such a "cassanova" so, that was it!!!
He was such a lover!!!! He used to "kiss and hug"
everyone!!!!

Man, I really miss my cats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first Kitty...Howard Roarke from the book the Fountainhead

My current kitties...

Ivan Ivanovich grey 20 yo next month from some unremembered book

April Mae calico almost 3 ...named because I told my kids we could get kittens in the spring...in April or May

her all black brother...originally Amy June (Amy after my childhood cat and June to go with April May) after a vet visit changed to Jack Mack (Jack from the Disney show So Weird)

Vivienne

I have a solid white cat and wanted to name him after a ghost. Casper seemed too trite, so I finally came up with Marley after the Ghost of Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol.

My other little cat (RIP 1/20/04 :( ) I named Arizona after the Supreme Court case Miranda vs. Arizona. I was supposed to get a second cat from that litter and name her Miranda, but that is not how things worked out. We miss you little A!

I have two cats, Misfit and Bella.

Misfit is a bengal, and was spastic when we took him out of his cage to play with him the day we got him. And I rescued Bella off the street, she's such a pretty grey cat, and that was the first name that came to mind as I was on my way to the vet with her.

Our cat's name is Mr. Kitty. He was a "teenager cat" (our term for a cat thats not a kitten anymore but not an adult either:rolleyes: ) when we got him, and my kids figured that he had already named himself. :teeth:

I don't have cats, but my brother's two cats have pretty clever (I think) names:

Ponce de Leon, Ponce for short: named for the explorer because he was the first kitten of the litter to venture out of the box and explore.

Dances with Mice, Dan for short: a play on the Movie "Dances with Wolves" and because he was amusingly transfixed by a mouse toy.

Barbe

We adopted ours from the humane society. He was already 4 years old. My DD could not say Bucky (which is what they had named him).. .. she called him Meow Meow. So Meow Meow has stuck. He wont come to Bucky anymore. LOL

We have Cleo (Cleopatra) and Gwen (Guinivere). Cleo took forever to name... and one day it just stuck... she is a black Maine Coon with a slightly exotic look and it just fits.

I picked Gwenie when she was about 4-5 weeks old and I took pictures of her to show my friends before she came home. This one picture of her just made her look so beautiful and regal and King Arthur's Guinivere... so she was named even before she came home :)

disneygals, my beloved first child was a dog named April May. She was a honey!

I had a Thomasina as a child, named after the cat in the Disney movie, because he was an orange tiger just like the movie cat.

My brother had black and white kitty siblings named Bonnie and Clyde.

My giant cat is named Elmo. Our nephew always called his baby brother to be Elmo. I thought it was a cute
name so borrowed it.
