Tell Me, What Name Did You Choose for Your Cat, and Why

Our cat was originally named el Duque after Yankee player Orlando Hernandez (his nickname) We got him during a World Series. Of course, now that Hernandez has been traded we rarely call the cat el Duque. He is very naughty, so we usually call him Devil Boy - my daughter calls him B.B.-short for Bad Boy!

my old cat's name is Micky. Not the mouse, she was named after Micky Dolenz. I was coming up with name after name and DH kept rejecting them, so finally I said to pick something or I'd name her after M.D. (my favorite Monkee). He didn't come up with anything so Micky it is. She is almost 17.
My new cat (just turning 1) that we got in November is Tabitha. I had a horrible time naming her. I can't remember her first name, then I changed it to Fiona, but I wanted something a little witch like because she is a black cat, but she is also small and cute, so I picked Tabitha from Bewitched.
Robin M.

We used to have a cat named Boomer after Boomer Esiason former QB of the NY Jets.

We have Gandalf (a grey cat) from Lord of the Rings
Breeze (black and white0 we found right after hurricane Andrew a very large breeze
Winnie was found right outside a club named Churchill's
Dream my daughter named
then we have had Dusty who had a huge feather duster tail.
Baby who we never really came up with a name for.
And Gimli who was also named for a Lord of the Rings character.
Last 2 are no longer with us.

was a tiny little blue point siamese kitten.......he was so cute and I found out that he went potty in my husbands shoe (thank goodness he was in Sicily with the navy) so I called the baby Poo Poo Shu.....cause he poo pooed in the shoe......

Our cat's name is Simba. We got him shorty after returning from our Disney honeymoon, so we wanted a Disney name and Simba seemed to fit him perfectly.

I have had some pretty goofy names for my kitties. I have:

Mogwi-named after Gremlins
Alien-only long hair calico in litter, her litter mates have all died (old age) and they were Mr. Red, White Sox and No Sox(she was the only one with no white feet)
Trixie-I had Ed and Alice and then later got Kramden who turned out to be female so she couldn't be Ralph(she died at age 17 and Alice was 18, Eddie was 14.
Cliff-he used to cliff dive off of the bunk beds when he was a kitten.
Penny-died in Nov. and she was found on Pennlyn Place and was sort of copper colored.

I also had a cat named Herman because he was a monster, Bugsy because he had big ears (Bugs Bunny) and was loaded with fleas when we saved him.

Alright bear with me we have 5 cats lol

Little Chuggy is our oldest and she is my cat. She looks exactly like one of my grandparent's cats whose name was Chuggy so we named mine Little Chuggy.

Little Kitty is my mom's cat and he is a stray who adopted us and when we first saw him he was a tiny little kitty so we called him Little Kitty.

Chipper who is my brother's and Zoe is who is another one of mine are brother and sister. I don't know how my brother came up with Chipper but I named my cat Zoe because Zoe was my favorite character on Sesame Street and I had mentioned Zoe when I was naming my older cat, Little Chuggy.

Our kitten is named Houdini and he is my sister's. I don;t know how she came up with that name.

I had to have my 6 year old siamese mix put down in July, but for some reason I always include him when I answer questions like this because he still seems like a "current cat." :( His name was Sydney-- I named him partly because I'd always wanted to see the city in Australia (which I did in August!) and partly because he was such an evil little kitten that I thought "Syd Vicious" fit.

I also have a 1 year old siamese mix named Sebastian. There's no particular reason for it-- I've just always liked the name. Sounds sophisticated! :teeth:

Thanks for all the responses, it's interesting to read how you acquired your cats and came up with names for them.

Some of you may remember I had to put my precious kitty, Louise, to sleep in December as we found out she had bone cancer (it was in her spine, she couldn't control her bladder and was having trouble with her legs) and I have really, really missed having a cat in the house. None could ever replace her, but it's funny about a person's heart...it can expand and another little kitty can find a home there too!! :lovestruc

My daughter has 3 cats and they really don't want 3 anymore, so they were going to put the last one outside in the spring, but she said she's a "lap cat" so I decided to bring her down and on the first day she proved that to be true so she found a new home with us!! :teeth:

She's all black, except for a tiny white patch on her chest and a little bit bigger white patch on her tummy. Her original name is Sprout, but I think we're going to change it to Mystic.

We named our first cat Beau because we wanted something to go with our French last name.

I actually brought three kittens home from the animal shelter I worked at because they were too young for adoption so they needed to be fostered for a few weeks and I wanted to see how Beau would react. My DH fell in love with them so I told him he could keep one. He picked the tiger cat and at first we called him Tiger but about a week later we changed his name to Rocket - the kitten could move at Rocket speeds, especially after getting Beau angry at him ;) He is much larger and older now but at certain times he reminds us of exactly why we named him Rocket.

Our cats names are Miss Kitty and Baby. Miss Kitty's real name is just plain Kitty, we stuck the Miss on later in her life. We lacked creativity, I guess, but she looked like a Kitty. Baby was named Baby because she is and always has been teeny tiny. :)

The three cats I have had over my lifetime were Murphy, who was named after Murphy Brown during the whole Dan Quayle/Murphy Brown single parent brouhaha back in the early '90's. My cat Misha was named after the love of my life, Mikhail Baryshnikov, whose nickname is Misha! The cat we have now, Pumpkin, we adopted this past fall, and were trying to think of an atumn-y kind of name.:)

Our cat's name is PITA (pain in the ***) for obvious reasons. He's my DH's baby and my DH usually calls him punam instead of PITA. I think someone told DH that punam is yiddish for face and the cat really does have a gorgeous face.

I've had so many cats over my lifetime I couldn't begin to list all the names. Ones that stand out were a litter of kittens named after all the characters on Love Boat: Doc, Julie, Gopher, Captain (short of Captain Stubing) and Isac. I was big into naming my pets after TV characters when I was young. I had Beau and Luke, BJ and Bear, Michael and Kit....you get the idea!

Maximus, the cat, was named after the Gladiator movie. Now we call him MaxiMoose because he is huge!

Samantha, or Sammy, the cat was named out of spite towards my DH. When I was pregnant with our DS, if he was a boy he would be Sean, if a girl he would be Samantha. Right after DS was born, while still in labor & delivery room, one of the first things DH said was "I'm really glad it's a boy, I really hated the name Samantha!" For 9 months he was fine with the names! The he chooses that moment to tell me he doesn't like the name???!!! So now I got my Sammy :)

Fishy & Froggy are kind of self-explainatory....DS-4 named them  Of course, he is not allowed to name THIS baby!

Our first kitty appeared on our doorstep and stayed. We named her Annie after Little Orphan Annie.

The kitty we have now is named Cricket because he is black and can really jump. We call him E.K. a lot though. It stands for Evil Kitty because he likes to do mean things to our dogs.

My kitty's name is Kadek Kacing (pronounced Kadeek Kacheeng) which means Second Cat in Balinese. Simply because he is our second Balinese.... :p Yeah, I google WAY too much!

My first Maine Coon is Miko(Meeko) named for the raccoon in the Pocohantas cartoon.

My second one is Dexter because my son loved the Dexter Cartoon.

My pound kitty is Spunky because everytime DD walked past her cage she reached a paw out and hit her on the head.

Our cat that died last summer was named Muffin. When we got her as a tiny kitten we were kicking around names, nothing seemed to fit. My Mom meant to say mittens but said Muffin instead. We said that's it! We're thinking of getting a new cat in the spring, I've been trying to think of a Disney name for a girl. I'm thinking Belle.
