Tell me something I don't know about POP!

We booked our trip about 2 months ago. Made all the ADRs. And then was just sitting around and waiting for the time to pass. Now I have found this forum. I am so excited and pumped about staying at POP! It will be our first trip to POP. We have always stayed in ASMovies. We decided to take to plunge and try something new. And seeing pictures and stories about the cool things to see and do are definitely reinforcing that decision to try out POP. I never thought I would make it to double digits before trip. Now I don't know if I will make it to single digits.

I guess it must depend on the person, because we were far back, and nothing seemed more than a 7 minute walk for us. I walked all over the property and didn't think anything was very far away. I was amazed that people complained about how far away they were.

I guess it also depends on how many kids you need to take to Everything Pop or the pool a zillion times back and forth! ;) Or that we are used to staying at AKL previously. But to me a 7 minute walk, just to refill a mug or go to the pool doesn't seem like a vacation to me after walking around the parks all day. JMO. If everybody else wants to add extra miles to their WDW exercise program, more power to ya!

Great thread! We're so excited about staying at Pop for the 1st time in August.

Question: Which rooms are the quietest? Should we request something away from the pools, facing the lake? And is any area (80's, for example) quieter than the others?

Thanks! :thumbsup2

I have stayed in the 70's, 80's, and 90's sections (in that order). It is true that everything is around a 7-10 minute walk...but if I had small children (no longer in a stroller) I would pay the extra amount for a preferred room. After you've been walking in the parks all day that hike to the room feels more like a mile. And as mentioned previously, the trips back and forth get very tedious. One of us would go to the food court and get breakfast and bring it back to the room and the food was always cold by the time we ate it. I'm not trying to be negative (because I love POP!) but some of the rooms truly do feel like you are pretty far away from the main building.

Regardless of what section you are in, anything around the pools will be noisy. I would definitely request lake view to be on the backside of the building if you want quiet.

What is the price difference between the standard and preferred? I cannot get the WDW website to work today! These discussions have made me want to switch to preferred -- if it is not too expensive.

Another factor to consider in the preferred vs. standard debate:

When we stayed at POP a month ago, we found that we got much more enjoyment out of the Computer Pool than the Hippy Dippy Pool. (Didn't get over to the Bowling Pin Pool). The Computer Pool was quiter, less crowded, and there were always life vests and beach ball available for DD7 and DS4. We were a roughly equal distance from both pools in the 70s section.

If you go Preferred, you'll be close to the Hippy Dippy Pool, but a bit of a jaunt away from the other pools. It's something to consider.

It's also worth pointing out, I guess, that there is a small kiddie pool adjacent to the Hippy Dippy Pool, as well as a pool bar. These amenities aren't present at the other pools.

I'd love to know if there is a movie screen! That would be very cool!

Anyone else have any POP tips or tricks?

As far as I know there isn't one, and I never saw one either. My guess is that it is unique to ASMovies, since that resort is all about movies....:3dglasses

Well, there wasn't a movie screen when we were there in May but it sure sounds like a good idea. popcorn::

It is a good idea.

Another good idea would be to make the computer screen by the Computer Pool change every now and then. It could display a Web site of current park news.

I stayed in building 7 in the 80s section. It was quiet, my room being around the corner from the elevator. It's a bit of a walk to Classic Hall but I didn't mind it, even after a long day at the parks. We used the computer pool as it was right there and only a few people in it late at night.

Did play some games (ok, so it was Skee Ball.... :rotfl: ) in the arcade. Never could play Pac-Man.... :confused3

Was going to watch the shuttle launch last year from the bridge but either I missed it or they delayed it. Called Mom but she wasn't sure....

It's too bad I'm not staying in Pop this year.... missed out on the rate on Expedia and wasn't sure about Orbitz to try them.... Dreams Unlimited couldn't get me a room so I got Sports instead....

Hi
Here is a different question I hope someone can answer.
Is the TV in the room capable of accepting and playing a dvd player brought from home through RCA Jacks and does the remote have the ability to change "input" from TV to RCA Jacks? Thanks
