Tell me more about the DLH!!

YOU MUST MUST MUST go to Goofy's Kitchen!!! Its a bit pricey but the food is GREAT!!! And you get to see sooo many characters without having to stand in those very long lines in the park. We've eaten there I think four times now, and besides Goofy, have had different characters everytime. Its one of my favorite things to do...you should go, its a great experience.

tracer, you'll most likely get something pretty nice. When our sink backed up on a trip a couple of years ago, they gave us each 3 of those ride passes that get you on right away, any ride (unlike the fastpasses) plus a free character meal of our choice.

Now...THAT would be nice! :thumbsup2 How lucky you were!

It could be an upgrade OR it could be a free meal, like a free character meal or something! Or maybe they will put something nice in the room for you, like treats!

That sounds yummy! I can't wait to see what something "special" means. I bet it will be something small since it was a small mistake. A mistake that hasn't even affected us...but hey, I like "special" things!:cool1:

Oh we love Goofy's. We always do Goofy's when we are there...at least once a year. I am a bit sad we won't be doing the Plaza Inn with Minnie and Friends this trip...next time forsure. There is something about the atmosphere there...true Disney spirit!:cloud9:

I'm sure it will be something very special! I can't wait to hear about it! Personally, I think the price at Goofy's kitchen has just gotten too high. You can meet most of the characters in the park, get pictures and autographs, sit on their knee or give them a hug, all for the price of your admission. $70. for 2 adults to have breakfast, is just unreasonable to me. I'm glad in the past we had the opportunity for our children to have a character breakfast as part of our holiday package, and even then the price was not nearly what it is now. Now, it's nearly the same price as visiting the park for the day! :confused3

The coffee in the little coffee bar there... can't remember the name of it....is really really good! and if you are in the dreams tower, you walk out the doors of the building and you are on the doorstep to downtown disney, then a 3 minute walk to the monorail, and you're in the park. To me there is nothing closer than that anywhere. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the dreams tower, anything above the 3rd floor gives you a lovely view into downtown disney or the otherside to the pool and gardens. And I love the giagantic kingsize pillow top mattress's they have! I felt like a princess!! princess: Walking around the garden and waterfalls at night is so romantic!

I am with Tracer and Hawky. I love Goofy's. For the amount of food and variety of food that you can get, on top of the character interaction, it is worth the price to us, though it is not cheap - there is no getting around that. Not to mention the fact that the Premium AP gets you a good discount off of the meal. For the upcoming December trip, this is the first time ever that I actually made TWO PS's for Goofy's. Usually, we hit Goofy's one time, but it's the holidays so might as well go nuts!;) For people who are not big eaters or don't really like all you can eat buffets, or those who don't really care about interacting with characters, then I would say skip it. Or if you want the character meal experience but at a cheaper price, then go with one of the other ones instead.

When I made my PS's for Goofy's last night, the CM told me that Goofy's and the other character meals seem to be "strangely open and available" as far as PS bookings in December. So either people are just not making the PS arrangements to eat, OR not as many people are eating at the character meals this holiday season.

It's not only the Holiday season, Sherry.

When we were in DLR in October I was able to get a seating for Goofys the same morning (it was for late breakfast at 11 AM) and besides us there was only one other couple in the whole restaurant.

Granted, it was a weekday, but still I would have expected it to be a bit busier.

Even on our last day (Sunday) we got a PS within 30 minutes of the current time and we got seated within 5 minutes then.

We stayed at the DLH last December and there was a "Pirates Life For Me" Trivia Challenge. We didn't do it but I just found the paper in our albumn.

It says:
Make ye way to the guest service desk in the Magic Tower to receive your instructions. Distribution will take place from 8-10. Now, off with ya!

In extra small print: Activity takes place on Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Park admission tickets are required.

I don't know if they are still doing it, but it sounds kinda interesting and fun... Plus, it sounds free (if you already have tickets). ;)
Maybe someone can let us know if they are still doing that at the DLH.

Even though I am not happy about the possible reason for the decline in visitors to DLR, including the character meals (terrible economy; lots of people are jobless and broke), I will not complain if there are fewer people crowded around the buffet tables, so I can grab my stuff and head back to the table quickly!:goodvibes Nor will I complain if there are fewer people in the line for HMH and IASWH. In October, when we were there, the corwds seemed manageable the first day, and then on the second day (Saturday) DL was packed. Goofy's was pretty busy but not the busiest I have ever seen it, that's for sure.

My wife and I will be staying at DLH the 6th-13th, for our honeymoon. With her having gone as a child, and this being my first time, I couldn't be more excited to get the H out of Alberta! I was just browsing the dining thread....some days I'm more excited about the meals (token trip to Bubba Gump's in there somewhere).

Well congratulations!! hubby and my anniversary is the 6th of December... our last big trip was our "second honeymoon" 28 years together and we are still Disney kids!! We had the best time at the DL Hotel.... have you told them it's your honeymoon? have you asked to be in the dreams tower? Like I said in my other post, the gardens and waterfalls are soooo romantic to stroll through in the evening after a nice dinner at Hookes Point, or Steakhouse 55....even after 28 years!!

I've mentioned it to the CM at Vacation Planning o'er the phone, and he said he'd hook us up with a couple things which he told me about, but I don't know if they'll throw in a few extra surprises...which would be Fantasmic....sorry bad joke.

:lmao: nah...that was a good one! you can request which tower you want to be in.... I think general consensus is Dreams is the best, above the 3rd or 4th floor.... Someone here complained the walk was a bit long into downtown disney and the monorail) and the rooms smaller and maybe not as newly decorated in the Magic tower, and I know the walk is longest from the Wonder tower. I'm sure someone will correct me in any mistakes I make... Unless of course you are in one of the special suites, like the pirate suite! or concierge which are better rooms anyway...
by the way...how much snow do you have there now?

So the magic tower has smaller rooms and are not newly renovated?? Is this the tower where you check in at?

.

Zilch-nada-squat! Not even a mere sign of snow....watch, now that I said that, it'll snow tonight! Naw, the big guy in the sky and I have an agreement....No S-word till after our plane lands at LAX

Yes, it is the tower you check in..... but that they are smaller and not as recently decorated is only what I read in another post somewhere. I do know for sure that all the concierge rooms, and the special Pirates of the Caribbean suite and the Mickey Penthouse are in the Dreams tower. I can only tell you what I saw for sure with my own eyes, that the rooms in the Dreams tower are beautiful! and all the rooms are "view" of either Downtown Disney, or the pool. In the Magic tower, you can have rooms looking out over the front entrance area (parking lot) and to the convention center etc. Not what I want to be looking at! In the Wonder tower you can have a view of the garden and waterfalls, or you could end up looking at another parking lot, and the walk to the entrance from that tower is a lot further. I think I'm going to start saving now to stay in the Pirates Suite!!
I don't know if we are allowed here to link to sites... it's an official Disney site, with pictures of the Pirates Suite, the Mickey Penthouse, and others! I'll put in the link, if it's not allowed someone can remove it and rap my knuckles!

I'll do my non-snow dance for you! :yay: It snowed heavily for our wedding, we were told the night before if it kept up, we'd probably have to cancel...:scared1: the morning dawned clear and sunny, the roads were ploughed, the whole wall behind the pulpit of our church was 2 stories of glass looking out onto the snowy forest.... it was magical!

Here are some pics of our room and the view from the Dreams Tower
hubby took this of me standing up on the bed! lol... he wanted to get the pool all in there

So now I'm puzzled... I was just looking at online menus and for Goofy's Kitchen and the price for one adult for breakfast is $19.99 do you know if this is correct as of this past summer? if so, when we were going to go there, the woman who was taking our order so to speak, said it was roughly $70. :scared1: for 2 adults, for breakfast! we cancelled and went to Steakhouse 55.... now I'm thinking she must have made a mistake! I can see spending $20. each for an adult... I was thinking $35 each was crazy! Do you know, did she make a mistake?
Never mind thanks.... I found the updated menu prices here.... with the gratuitie added in etc. it would indeed come to about $70. for 2 adults to eat breakfast....I find that to be just too much.
