We had planned to stay at the WL next April, but the rates were good and I got the itch to go sooner. We are now going August 28 to September 6th right before school starts here in NY. My question is, will my family be miserable in the heat? Did I make a mistake? I have been looking forward to staying at the WL and am so excited about that, but will our vacation be a disappointment because of the heat?? Please give me you honest opinions!!!!

I can tell you this as a fellow northerner: I couldnt take the heat of late Sept last year and Im not a complainer by any means. Bring water, spritzer fans or ANYTHING that will keep you cool!! Hopefully the crowd gods will be on your side--Have a great time!!

I just did the same - booked a last minute trip. We have been at WDW the past two summers and let me tell you, it was nowhere near as miserable down there as it was in NYC during the throes of summer. You also don't have the smell of festering garbage, having to deal with sauna like subway stations, and all the other pleasantness that comes with a NYC summer. I think you will be fine. The air in Florida is also so much better so all these things help.

We've been to WDW twice in September and we found it to be almost unbearably hot & humid (especially in 2000!). Plus, it has the potential to be very rainy. September 10 is considered the "peak" of hurricane season and both times we went to WDW in September there was either a tropical storm or a hurricane churning off the coast. One good thing - we went to MK on a day it was really raining & blowing and we had the park to ourselves!

The crowd levels were very low during both our September visits which was a big plus. But, we went after Labor Day so I don't know how the crowds are in early September.

Just make sure to take lots of breaks and drink lots of water. Heck, you'll be in Disney World, how can you not have a good time? Even if it is hot. :sunny:
