Tell me if I'm right or not - please?

I wasn't able to get a 40% off code during the mad rush but did get a pretty decent discount. I booked at POR from 8/22-9/-01 including passes and dining for $3595 (which I thought was a pretty good deal). I also thought that I would rebook when free dining came out for the whole ressie. Now that it's only offered 8/26-9/01 - it doesn't really seem to be really any cheaper to book two different reservations. One for 8/22-8/26 full rate with dining and one for 8/26-9/1 w/ free dining. Am I looking at this correctly?

You don't say how many adults are in your party.

But assuming two adults... free dining saves you 78$ a day. If you got two kids.. under 9 years old.. another 20$ a day.

40% at POR would save you about 58$ a day (Assuming 145 base rate) For 10 nights that's a savings of 580$ plus tax.

Given that you'll have to buy base tickets a second time (cost of 136 for 2 adults).. which by my math.. is about what you would save by going thru all the hassle... I don't see the point.

So I figure you're good. Unless you have two teenagers who will count as adults on the dining plan.. in which case all my math is wrong.

Thanks Canadian Guy -- sorry I forgot to say how many in the group. There's two adults and two kids (10 & 12) who qualify as adults as far as dining goes. I also have three free days(of park tickets) left over from our Hurricane Frances trip. This is probably our last trip to WDW with our boys for quite a while since it costs so much from the west coast so I want to get it right.

Ok.. well.. assuming your dates aren't flexible..

The most you can save with free dining is : 156 a day x 6 days = 936$

But you have to buy base passes for everyone all over again.. 272$

And you lose 58$ a night x 6 nights.. 348$

So you could save 316$ by splitting your stay.

That's obviously a fair chunk of change. But I also happen to think it could present some hassle... As long as you are prepared for *maybe* having to change rooms.. unlikely but it *could* happen..

[EDIT] I originally did this math wrong.

For 348$ .. ME -- I might leave well enough alone. For you.. that could be a LOT of souvenirs. Is it worth potentially messing around with the front desk for 30 to 90 minutes on one of your vacation days? That's up to you of course.

I tend to go back and forth. I'm so very frugal, but at the same time, I want everything to go great for us this time. Although it does bother me a little to pay for dining when I could get it free --I find myself getting anxious as tomorrow approaches. I think I'll just leave our ressie as it is and be thankful to have what I have. Thanks again for your advice.:flower3:
