Tell me if I have a problem - connecting room ?

I have two connecting rooms at ASMO reserved for next August. I went through a travel agent because it saved me a few hundred dollars with a group rate. The first confirmation I received were two separate confirmations with 3 people listed in both rooms (we are a family of six). One confirmation was under my name and one under my husbands. This did not sit well with me so I emailed the agent and explained that I thought both rooms should be on one confirmation with one name. I did not want to start our vacation with an argument with a CM when they have our two rooms on different sides of the resort. We want connecting rooms as our four kids will be in one room!

TA said no problem, will call CRO and they will resend confirmation.

Today I got the new confirmation and although they are both under my name and came together in the same envelope..they both still have 3 people in each room.

Should I worry about this? At the least I would think they would be on the same piece of paper. These are two separate confirmations with separate confirmation numbers - only they came in the same envelope.

We really need connecting rooms.

My reservation is all under 1 number, having 3 people in one room and 1 in the other and also states guaranteed connecting roms on it.

That's just the way they do it. I made our reservation, and they listed my dh on the other room. We still got connecting rooms. They have to list an adult per room. As long as your confirmation says connecting rooms, and you have small children, you SHOULD be ok. Being flexible about room location helps.
One heads up...They asked for my dh's ID when I checked in. I was going to run out to the van and get him, but then the CM said never mind, and waived the requirement since I was the reserving party and checking in for all of us. The next CM may have made him come in with it.
Also, you will have 2 sets of cards (room keys/tickets). Your dh and 2 kids' set will open one door, and yours will open the other. Make sure you have the right keys for the right door. I sent DH back to the room with a room key, and had forgotten and left that door bolted. He had to come all the way back to where we were to get the other key. Pain.
Also, if you have dining, the cards will be divided up the same way. Dh and 2 kids on one, you and the others on the other.
We were still able to use only one card per meal, but I have heard that depends on the CM.

Your fine... They have two ways of doing this, one would be everyone on one reservation with both rooms listed on it (what is called a multi room reservation)... the other way is 1 adult on each with the kids split up between them. The only way Disney (generally) Guarantees connecting rooms (they are mostly just a request) is "for families" meaning mom, dad and the kids...no other adults traveling with you (if grandma was coming they would not generally guarantee it). The room assigner will go through all the incoming reservations about 3-4 days before your arrival and they will pre-assign any multi-room reservations (including same names and reservations that have comments that they are traveling with another party) and any guaranteed requests (medical needs, your situation, etc). Those guests that have just basic requests that are not guaranteed are not pre-assigned (for the most part) they are left to a first come first serve.

I would not worry about the way it is set up. It happens that way all the time. It is something that the room assigners look for

Our confirmation is the same...but hopefully when we get there, it won't matter that both parents in one room and the kids in another. I will keep in mind about the keys..thanks for posting that information. It sure would be frustrating not know what to key to use. Connecting does mean open doorway between the two rooms right??? We are at CBR. Do all the resorts have connecting and not just adjacent???

What do you do if the name of the parents don't match? When I remarried I use a hyphenated version of my last name because of my children and business needs! Will that cause a problem with the rooms connecting??? We have a yours/mine/ours situation!

Yes, connecting means there is door inside the room that connects to the room next door. Adjoining means rooms are side by side, no connecting door inside the room. ALL Disney hotels have connecting rooms. They are limited though so that is why they do not guarantee them unless you are one family (if there are more than 2 adults traveling with the party they generally do not guarantee them...if it is only 2 adults and the rest are kids they usually will).

As for the cards... They are a lot easier to keep track of since MYW came online, the cards used to all have the same name on the front (the reservation name) with the introduction of MYW all the cards are personalized now with each individual name, so as long as you know that Johnnies card opens door A and Suzies card opens door B you will not have an issue with that just check the name on the card itself

KellyG403: Make sure that they have the reservations crossed referenced and that they note that you are traveling together. As long as the note is in the comments the room assigner will get it...It also would not hurt, in your situation to call the hotel a few days in advance (no more than 7 days prior to arrival) to verify that the comments are noted... You will be talking to the WDW call center, not the hotel front desk directly, but they can check your reservation, and note additional comments if necessary.

I will certainly make sure that I do that. Appreciate the info! I never even thought about it since the reservation is in my name and I did all the planning and used my credit cards etc for reference etc.

Names should not matter.

I brought along a sharpie pen, and used it to label the room keys. For example dh, dd, and ds were in room 3126, their keys worked there, so I labeled those keys with 26, mine and the other kids were 3127, so I labeled them with 27. Very helpful!

I also used my sharpie for my photopass. I put our last name and our hotel name on our photopass card when it was given to us by the photographer.

I was really stressed about the connecting rooms, but it worked out great. Make sure your request is listed on your ressie now, and as the other poster said, call a few days before and check, then check again when you get there. Connecting/non-smoking (med. reason) was our priority, so I was willing to change bldgs if necessary, but we got our first choice.
