Hey, we are going early Oct. That first day, after checking in, we are headed to DTD, but DH wants to try Boma at AK (in AK lodge, right?..no park ticket needed?). We'd just end early at DTD and head over there......easy since we are staying close, ASM. We had planned to just pick a DTD resturant, but on the dining plan, it's too limited at DTD and we've heard a few good things about Boma.

So, tell me about it...food, atmosphere, we have 4 adults, 2 kids (2.5, 4.5). Will we LOVE it? Or is there a better suggestion in DTD??
Thanks!

I say make the trip to Boma! I went in June and had such a great time. You do not need park admission as it is at the AK Lodge resort. Be sure to budget in some time to see the Lodge if you have not, it is gorgeous!

Boma is provides a wide variety of items on the buffet, including many items themed to African Cuisine. The ribs are divine! As is the chicken. There are some adventurous choices and some very basic items that I think could please anyone. The desserts are delicious too! If you are a coffee fan you have to try the Zebra Domes. :goodvibes If you haven't yet I suggest checking out the sample buffet menu over on Deb Willis' Allearsnet site. The selections rotate by day. Oh, wait, try the soup/stews they are amazing also!!

If I remember correctly they did offer some of the more traditional kids items too but I am sure someone will come along soon and correct that if it is wrong!

Have a great trip!
Mike :goodvibes

Chicken fingers and macaroni and cheese make an appearance, so my DS is always happy about that!

The wine list is pretty great, too, if you like wine. I THINK a majority of the wines are South African, and I don't know about you, but we don't get a lot of South African wine this far upstate. Lot's of things by the glass, though you've got enough people to get a bottle (I'm the only adult--a bottle of wine would not be pretty--) so you've got an even greater number of choices.

Atmoshpere is great, too. Kind of nice and dark, neat lights, etc.

My family like to try different foods and Boma was great. We had 4 kids with us (6 and under) and they enjoyed it as well.

Lots and lots of choices at the buffet. I can't imagine someone not finding something they wouldn't like. Now I can imagine someone not liking the place overall, since everyone is so different but not my family! This is now absolutely my favorite place to eat in Disney so far.

Currently the most overhyped restaurant on the Disboards and a huge disappointment. (The soups were good). Most of the buffet was overcooked and/or cold. The desserts - particularly the zebra domes, were stale. But I'm not a buffet fan to start with and this - in the end - is a buffet with some unusual items on it.

I cant say enough about Boma. We stayed at AKL this past march. We decided to try Boma and we loved it so much that we ate dinner again the following night. The soups change every day and so does the meat choice too. The soups are absolutely out of this world. Definately go for it

Kevin and I had the breakfast buffet at Boma just last weekend. I think it was excellant! Great value for the money etc. It has your typical buffett fare along with some "african" style fare

If you are there during breakfast YOU MUST try quinoa porridge. You can add fruit, sugar cinnamon or what have you. They also have some of the quinoa "oats / seeds" toasted.

I tried it first with raisins, cinnamon and some brown sugar, and some toasted quinoa on top, it was super. I decided to go back and try it in the traditional manner that the chef suggest, which is just the porridge with some of the toasted quinoa on top. It was EVEN BETTER that way!

OOH thats breakfast buffet sounds great Mr. Disney. I cant wait to try it. :)

Well.......thanks everybody, for your input. Looks like we're trying it! IF we can get ARs this late........hopefully not a problem. Thanks again! ANyone else that has input on this, plz feel free to add!

Wow thanks Mr. Disney. I am glad i chose Boma for breakfast then on my September trip!

Boma: phenomenal.....don't miss it....great for any age....prime rib outstanding....have fun!

Sorry, have to disagree... :rolleyes1

Personally, we didn't enjoy it at all. But I know there are many who love it...

Good Luck! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

BOMA was the nicest surprise from our last trip. DH was reluctant to go as he feared he would be eating dung beetles and leechie nuts. He really doesn't know much about food from other places and is the king of meat & potatoes. This is now one of his favorite WDW restaurants. He has already asked to go again this year. He loved the various meats. The soups and desserts were my favorites. princess: pirate: :earboy2:

paulish,

Check out www.allearsnet.com and click on dining. They have menus with prices for all the resorts and parks. Some are current, others are not. I think Boma is around $25 per person.

Enjoy!

Paulish-

Drinks are not included, but I think the wine (I don't get other drinks--it wouldn't be good) is worth the extra cost. I have not ever had a wine I didn't love there.

didn't try dinner but breakfast was same old buffet so not exotic...probably wouldn't go back( in fact canceled dinner res. due to so so breakfast) food wasn't bad, in fact some was good, just not worth it.

I can't believe nobody mentioned that special juice they have
It comes with the buffet I think?

Whats it called.....not jungle juice....but there is a name I can't recall......anyway it's reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly good

IMO the food was good but not excellent with the exception of the soups and the desserts. They were excellent. The AKL is beautiful as well as the restaurant However, I didn't think it was worth 2 credits especially for a buffet.
