I have a young niece princess: who will be 4 when we go to Disney World Decemeber, and she ADORES horses/ponies. I saw this in the description of things to do at the Fort Wilderness Resort:

Pony Rides: Take a leisurely pony ride with an accompanying adult at the lead. (Ages 2 and older.)

Can anyone tell me the time limitations??
Are their Age Limitations??
How much did it cost??

If anyone could help me get a better idea of what this intails I would be thrilled to read the responses.

All my nieces and nephews loved the pony ride.

There are several ponies and few guests most of the time. The adult does the leading, so make sure that you are comfortable (I have seen grandma/mother etc be very timid in the past). Because it's low demand, the kids can usually take their pick of their 'favourite' pony.

This is a great activity, and it lets the kids spend time with the ponies as it is very low key.

I usually visit the horse barn at least once every couple of months. Last trip I ended up with a group of 10 year olds who were following me around and I spent some time teaching them a little about horses.

There is also a farrier outside the horse barn next to the pony rides who is willing to talk about his craft.

It's a great way to spend some time as an alternative to hectic days in the part. Enjoy!

I think the weight limit is 65 or 70lbs for riding the ponies. They are small ponies so just fine. You do lead them around a designated path and can go slow and enjoy it. My son liked it a lot since he couldn't go on the regular horseback riding thing with dad.

Do you have to call ahead of time? If so, how far ahead? How late do they have them? We are doing HDDR and was thinking of trying it?

This was one of my granddaughter's favorite things. It was also her last thing to do on her first trip to Disney World. It's $3 and you don't need a reservation. I don't think they do it at night so you'd want to go before Hoop Dee Doo. An adult of the party will lead the very sedate horse around the path. Don't wear open toed shoes - it's not recommended.

It's a perfect thing for a four year old. My granddaughter had just turned five and she loved it. Her mother was also pleased and it was very inexpensive. Marlie still talks about "her" horse and that was two years ago.

:teeth: My DD absolutely LOVED the pony rides when we were there in February. I think they close early...maybe 5:00? We went over to FW one morning to eat at Trail's End and DD 'discovered' the pony rides. I could not get her out of there! I think she enjoyed that just as much as the parks. For weeks she kept asking for "Emmy's own pony" sheesh. Be prepared, LOL.
