Tell me about your closet system.

We are in the process of updating our house. Master bed room walk in closet needs a closet system.

I don't need the best of the best, but would like something nice.

Checked Home Depot , wasnt loving the quality , but the Martha Stewart brand looked ok.

Wondering about California Closets . So many companies to choose from.

What do you have , how do you like it?

Jerry: Please, and be brutal. I have no closet sensitivity.

Marla: Are you very fussy about your pants?

Jerry: I don't think I am.

Marla: Because I have a very radical idea. Can you handle it?

Jerry: Try me.

Marla: Here's what I'm proposing. We eliminate all this. The hangers, the bar, the shelves. And in its place install a series of hooks. We'll put everything on hooks.

Jerry: Everything?

Marla: Everything. The shirts, pants, sport jackets, pajamas. We could get eighty hooks on here.

Jerry: You're quite mad, you know.

We did the wire "design your own" closetmaid system from Home Depot. It's fantastic. Our closet is 10 feet wide and 10 feet deep. Before it was one rod on the left, one rod on the right and one rod slightly lower down across the back. Total waste and the corners were useless.

Now we have double rods that curve around the corner with a full shelf around the top and long storage and shelves for sweaters and shoes on the left and right towards the front. The wall with the door has hooks for bathrobes, belts, ties etc.

We have California Closets in our closets (we have 2 closets in our master bedroom). The quality is very nice but they are VERY expensive. Check out Ikea. They have a wide range of closest organizing systems from very inexpensive to California Closet expensive.

For DD's room, I used easyclosets.com. You can design your own or they'll do it for you, and there are lots of options for color and hardware. I found it very easy and the product is great.

I just went to the Container Store (out of Texas) and had their Elfa designer put something together. I love it.

Check out easyclosets.com . You design your space online, order it, and the pieces get shipped to your home (they even have an installation video online--it doesn't look that hard). I love all the customization you can do. Am strongly considering doing this for our mbr walk-in.

Also, if you have an Ikea nearby, they have some nice closet storage systems and ideas too.

Fellow HS alum owned a CA-Closets style business here in town, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. They advertised in the local shelter magazine here (BR House & Home), but it was a few years ago that I saw the ad. Haven't picked up an issue in a while, so don't know if they're still around. I can pm you his name if you want to do some asking around.

Also, there was a store off of Highland btw I-10 & CCLA that carried Container-store type items. They might have even carried ELFA products IIRC. Don't know if they're still around, because there's been some turnover in stores in that area.

Jeez - not much help, huh? Is DH wanting to DIY this with off-the-shelf stuff, or are you wanting custom? I can ask the neighbor who works at a local interiors design boutique if she has a reference for you.
