Please tell me about any appliance you own that you love, hate, would change etc.

I need one of everything.

I'll take advice on brands, finishes, etc.

Thanks for sharing any info with me that you care to.

I wish my fridge had a bigger freezer! Oh and i think I would prefer a side by side next time. I hate hunching over to search the fridge but I am kind of tall. My kitchen appliances are Whirpool and Fridgadaire (dishwasher & stove) we are not loving the frigidaire dishwasher.

Washer & Dryer, I skipped most of the bells and whistles. My dad told us that the fancier little things tend to break and end up being more expensive to fix.

We bought all new kitchen appliances July 4th weekend. We went to an independant appliance store and decided to just buy "deals". We got Bosch gas cooktop, double ovens, microwave & dishwasher. The refrigerator is LG - one with ice and water in the door, french doors and freezer on the bottom. We also had to buy a trash compactor (had to replace it, otherwise we wouldn't have bothered) & it's Kitchenaide.

So far so good. We were careful to measure everything for existing areas, but the Bosch double ovens are shorter than the GE we had there. It turned out OK, the contractor was able to build a piece at the bottom, so it looks fine.

We went all stainless steel, and yes the fingerprints show! I have some good cleaners for it, though.

Our appliances, come to think of it, are all Kenmore. So far, so good. It is my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that companies like Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, etc. actually make the appliance but sell it under the Kenmore label. You can tell which company made it by the model number; you could probably google the information.

The finishes in our kitchen are the fake stainless--satin or something. I really like it, and most people don't realized it's fake. You don't get the fingerprints and it cleans really easily; however, it does scratch.

The dishwasher. Our's is the world's loudest. We can only run it at night or we'll be deaf by the time the cleaning cycle is over. That is my biggest complaint and something I wish we would would have thought of when we bought it.

The Stove. It is a glass cooktop. I like it because I am not a gourmet. I just need something to boil water. I do like that it is easy to clean in terms of the absence of grates and grooves. I hated cleaning stove tops after a spill because of the nooks and crannies. I like the shiny finish, and if something does spill you can clean it with a special cleaner or scrape with a razor blade (haven't had to do that yet).

HTH.

The two appliances that I love are the dishwasher and refrigerator.

The dishwasher is a Maytag. It has three racks instead of the usual two so there is someplace to put large items like platters, cookiie sheets, etc. That rack is on the bottom. The middle rack is adjustable up and down to allow for different larger items either on it or the bottom rack. It is convenient, cleans well, and is quiet.

The refrigerator is an Amana French door without the door water dispenser. That dispenser would take up the top shelf on one side of the interior, so I decided to live without it. Thr bottom freezer is spacious and convenient.

We've replaced several in the last few years.

I second the one who disliked her Frigidaire dishwasher. We hated ours and replaced it with a Kenmore which was made by Whirlpool. Love it. Quiet and works very nicely.

I have a Maytag gas stove I dislike. I got it because it had the heavy duty burners and so many don't. I make a lot of huge pots of soup in the winter so worried about the thinner burners. The door is rusting on the bottom, the floor of the oven is rippled for some reason and it is a bear to clean the top. It still works so it will be here a while.

I have a Kitchenaid side by side for about 10 yrs. I love the filtered ice and water but hate the side by side. I am short and "round" so digging into that narrow freezer is a nighmare. I really, really hate side by sides.

All of ours are the standard white finish.

We had to replace our washer/dryer this year too. Got a Kenmore dryer which I like a lot and a Whirlpool washer. I loved my Fisher Paykel as it spun the clothes so dry but I didn't want the electronic controls (which last usually 5-6 years I found out) also the pump was going on it. The Whirlpool has knobs instead so hopefull it will last a while and they are both energystar.

Had to get a new microwave and garbage disposal this year too. It has been brutal here for appliances.

When we bought our house in 2005 we purchased our first washer/dryer, fridge, stove and built-in stovetop microwave, all white to match the corian countertops.

My recommendations are to get the water/ice in the fridge door - we never used ice so I didn't think we needed it but now-a-days it is a common feature and I am surprised to love the convenience of the cool filtered water. And I find I enjoy drinking a cold soda in a cup with ice rather than from the can. For a small fee the delivery people will hook up the water line to the fridge if you don't want to do it yourself. We purchased a low-mid price range Admiral (I think it is part of Maytag) from Home depot.

My other suggestion is to get a flat top stove - where the burners are concealed under a flat surface. We purchased a lower end model (ie cheapest) Whirlpool from Best Buy. It was strange to get used to cleaning it only with the special cleaner but now I love it. The cleaner is not expensive and you only need a small amount (dime size) to clean the entire stove top.

Happy shopping.
