So I'm planning to apply for Fall 2012, and the role I'm most interested in is Attractions. I'm interested in hearing from other people who have done this or want to do this or know someone who's done this, or in any way have an opinion about it.

I've heard that attractions is harder to get into than some other roles, is this true?

How many different attractions do you work at? Could it be any, or they assign you certain ones for the whole time you're in the program? Or something else? How does that whole thing work?

For people who have worked in that role before, did you like it? Dislike? Recommend?

Anything you can tell me would be awesome and very helpful. I have several friends and one family member who have done the college program, but most of them worked in custodial and one as a character performer.

So anyway. Thanks :)

Lets see if i can help, my answers are in bold.

I was in attractions for spring 2011 (disney quest), my girlfriend was in it for spring -summer 2011 (disney quest, haunted mansion) and one of the best friends/roommates i had down there was in attractions for fall2010-spring 2011-p/t (mission space)

yes because loads more people want to get into attractions than say custodial (which is a blast by the way)

it depends on location it could be one i.e. haunted mansion or you could be rotating around three different ones i.e. tomorrow land stitch-buzz-tta people mover

you get assigned a location, whether it be a single attraction or a group, and stay there the whole time unless you are a role hopper

For people who have worked in that role before, did you like it? Dislike? Recommend?

i liked it but i got in with a great group, i heard nothing but bad things from my friends about the following group who seemed to hate it. all in all it is a love/hate relationship where ever you are

SAFETY! if you do not follow the safety guidelines you will be termed, i saw too many people get termed because they didnt follow set guidelines ie height. you also have to deal with people who are oblivious to EVERYTHING so be prepared for that too...

So anyway. Thanks :)

Hope i helped somewhat! :3dglasses

Good to know! I was under the impression that attractions was one of the easier roles to get since they take so many (from what I've heard/read).

To add on to kayotik, I think attractions shouldn't be considered an officially "hard" role to get into. It is harder than some others, but I'd consider a "difficult" role to get to be more like full service food or concierge or bell hop. Quick service food, custodial and merchandise are probable the easiest. Attractions is kind of in between, but closer to Merch and quick serv on the spectrum.

Kayotik is exactly right on the safety thing. It is a HUGELY critical thing that you pay attention to safety. However, if they can tell you're really trying and aren't just being careless, they won't necessarily terminate you for safety violations. However, they will force you to switch role into a non-safety critical role such as Merchandise if you continually make mistakes. I've seen that happen far more commonly than terminations.

Most people love it. The main complaints are 1) It gets boring after a while... same ride, same buttons, same silly guests. And 2) If you have a ride with a height restriction you will make children cry all day and deal with angry parents who want to bend the safety standards sot their kid can ride... that always sucks.

Every location is different, so most other questions just really depend on your area. Hope that helped!

something i forgot to touch on, working Buzz Lightyear's Astro blaster (51" height requirement) and Cyberspace Mountain (also had the 51" requirement) we had all sorts of trouble with guests trying to force their way onto the ride with children who were not tall enough to ride. Once at 'Astro' we had a guest that was yelling at and trying to shove another cp i was with (she was 5ft nothing and 60 pounds soaking wet kinda small) i traded spots with he,r after the ride had ended and we didnt reload it, (im 6'2" and 30ish and can be a bit intimidating) to talk the guest down while the managers and security arrive.

That was a rare event but you have to keep a level head while working in ANY environment (had several interesting events in custodial too....) while at disney. The guests spend a lot and try to get as much as they can for it. :rolleyes1

Just finished my CP (Fall Advantage) at the Haunted Mansion. I had a blast, especially because our cast was like a tight knit family. There are some dreadful things about Attractions:making your counts, extending the queue, answering the same questions over and over (check out RageCastMember on Tumblr to learn more) but mostly its lots of fun making magic for thousands of people every day.

One thing you can look forward to as Attractions in the Fall program (if you get located at the Magic Kingdom) is working Treat Shifts for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Parties. Actually any party shifts. Those nights were some of my favorite during the program. All the guests dress up in great costumes and the energy in the whole park is great. Over at the Haunted Mansion, we got decked out in ghoulish makeup, cobwebs and creepy crawlies. Treat shifts are scheduled to all Attractions cast occasionally. You are paid to hand out candy for 6 hours. No lie.

Advice for the interview is to remain positive (obviously :D), but also be confident. In Attractions you're given a lot of responsibility. The guest is always right, except when they're trying to endanger themselves and others and its up to you to prevent that. Show them that you are a happy, strong individual and you'll be fine.

I've done attractions on 2 different CPs- Fall 2009 (Toy Story Mania) and Spring 2010 (Great Movie Ride).

Not at all! Attractions is one of the easier roles to get into, as there are so many attractions to work at

It depends on the location. For some, you only work one attraction (which is what I did). For others, multiple attractions are clumped together (like in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland). You will be at the same attraction(s) for the entire CP

I love working in attractions. TSM was a little hectic for me (and depending on the position, could be a little boring). But I absolutely LOVE working at GMR. One reason is that every tour is different. Plus the rotations go around quicker then at TSM

when did you start at the mansion? (we might have met...)

Arrival date was June 5, so my first day at Mansion was....the 10th? I think.

so I just applied today for Fall 2012, and passed the web-based interview (YAY!). The top role I want to go into is attractions. I just want some opinions here, do you think the fact that I have prior experience with rides and attractions at a theme park before will be of some advantage to me in the decision process?

I think it should help
