I am graduating this summer and have thought about moving to the Vancouver area to look for a job and live. How is the job market there? My major is creative writing, is the area cultural? Do they enjoy art? What about rent? Easy to find apartments? Are people friendly?

Anything anyone could tell me would be VERY helpful. THANK YOU!

It's in Canada.

Sorry...couldn't resist

Hi!! I was born in Vancouver and lived there for thirty seven years. It is a very large metropolitan city. The rent is high, the taxes are high. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. There are beaches and mountains, the best restaurants in North America. I haven't lived there since '97 so I can't tell you about the job situation. If you want more info pm me anytime!!

I could tell you all about Vancouver Washington!;)

As for Vancouver, BC - visited several times. Beautiful, beautiful city!! It is my favorite big city to visit that I've been to. (Not to mention, I'm a closet Vancouver Canucks fan... )

I know native culture and art are big in that area and it seems to be very deverse with people from all over. We've always been impressed with the friendliness of the folks we've meet there.

Good luck!

IT's me, Ilove8Trax, just posting under someone else's name for the time being. Not too sure if upper or lower or even right in Vancouver. But near it. Are there nice small towns nearby that would be nice to be in?

AND thank you for your responses. It helps greatly.;)

Sorry -- I was just kidding. Upper being BC and lower being WA. I really don't know too much about Vancouver, BC as my sightseeing has been to Victoria, BC.

I lived in Richmond for a few years when I was young.
I really like it and there is a big artsy community there.

You can live in many communites around Van.
Delta, Richmond, North Van, Coquitlam, White Rock is a bit further so is Ladner ( my personal favouurite town in the area ;) ) or you could move to the Island and be really artsy! ;) Sydney is wonderful ( my second favourite town in the area) Victoria is beautiful as well.
Its expensive and rent is high. There are a lot of changes in moving to Canada that you wouldnt expect, at least I didnt, I saw Michigan is that where youre from?

I just couldn't help but answer this post. I was on the phone talking to my favourite relative who lives in Vancouver, BC when I noticed this question. So I asked him what he thought and here is the answer:

"High rents, high taxes, high insurance rates, lots and lots of rain (6 months of the year) bars are open till 3 a.m. as for the job market you may do well in your line of work and it has the highest movie prices in all of Canada. All and all, it's a beautiful city, I wouldn't want to be any where else."

I don't believe that last line though, He is a bigger Disney fan than I am and I'm sure he would move right into WDW if he had the chance.
