In CDAtkin's great trip report he mentioned riding the train and seeing dinosaur and Grand Canyon displays. I've never heard of this can someone explain how to see them? On our trip last year we tried riding the train but after waiting about 10 min. with no one around we gave up since we have no idea how often it runs. Is there a schedule? How long is the wait for it to come back usually? How long is the ride?

Thank you!

The train goes through the Grand Canyon and Primeval World as it travels from Tomorrowland to Main Street. A full circuit on the train takes about 30 minutes, but can vary depending on how long the train stays in one station or if there are any delays (like having to wait for the parade to clear the tracks). Trains usually arrive every 5-15 minutes, depending on how many trains are running, but there is no set schedule.

First, thanks for reading my trip report.

On the disneyland railroad, between the tomorrowland and main street stations, you ride through a show building where they have extensive dioramas for the grand canyon and primeval world. Both displays feature anamatronic animals and dinosaurs. Its pretty cool and my kids in particular really liked it. The dinosaurs reminded me a lot of the dinos in the energy attraction at EPCOT

There are five stops on the Disneyland train. Main Street, New Orleans, Toon Town , and Tomorrowland. The section of track between Tomorrowland and Main Street goes through an indoor diorama of the primeval world including dinosaurs that is really cool. You can see it on youtube but honestly I would wait until you go back and see it first hand for a better impact. I believe the train comes around the stops about every 15 minutes.

Generally, there are 4 trains on the track during peak times, 3 during off peak. There are 4 stops (Main ST, New Orleans, Toon Town, and Tomorrowland.) Trains arrive every 4-5 mins peak times. It can be 7-8 min if only 3 trains. During really slow periods, there may only be 2 trains, and it will be 10 mins between trains. It takes 20 mins to make a full loop (done it too many times to count. 3 loops buys you an hour with a sleeping child...)

The diorama is between Tomorrowland and Main St stations.

A bit of Disney trivia/history - the dinosaurs in Primeval World were originally in one of the Pavilions that Walt Disney designed for the 1964 New York World's Fair!!

We love the train ride. Get another Disneyland perspective aboard the train and get to rest your feet as well :-) The easiest and shortest wait we find to be at Main Street station. Many people get off at this point so there are a lot of seats available and lines go quickly. Not true for New Orleans station though. Few people get off train at this point so you could be waiting for 2 or 3 trains before you're able to board. I would suggest taking a round trip to view the entire park. You see a partial view of inside splash mountain, view scenes behind the rivers of America, coast alongside its a small world, and view backside roads on autotopia, the go back in time to view Grand Canyon and dinosaurs. Have fun on your trip!

You should do this at least once! For our family it is a tradition to do it on our first morning of the first day of our trip.

Have a magical time!

We skipped the train so many times on previous trips in favor of other more exciting rides, I suppose. As others said, the full circuit is fun to do at least once (and it gets you off your feet!) but if you were truly only interested in the Grand Canyon/Primeval World section, then you could just get on at the Tomorrowland station and get off at Main Street.

Further piece of Disney trivia: The dinosaurs in Primeval World call to mind the Rite of Spring segment from Fantasia and Grand Canyon evokes Walt Disney's Grand Canyon live action featurette that showed before Sleeping Beauty in 1959.

We do this, too!

To the original poster: I really recommend that you ride the train around the park at least once. There are things to see in every segment of the trip. Be certain to see this segment, between Tomorrowland and Main Street. It's great!

I hadn't been on the train since I was a kid until our trip last month. I was amazed when it went through Splash Mountain. Splash is my favorite ride and never noticed the train went through it! Can you ever see the train actually go through from inside the ride?
The rest of the train ride was a great way to relax and beat the crowds on a busy day. We grabbed a mint Julip at New Orleans Square before we got on.

Also, there's an extra level of fun rising the train at night. It's bit spooky during the dark sections, and the lit sections of the park look amazing. That's my favorite time to ride it.

One of the best tips I've learned on this board, is to catch the train in NOS after Fantasmic and ride it all the way around the park to avoid the post Fantasmic crowd!

The Universe of Energy dinosaurs were based off of the DL diorama dinos, as a tribute to walt and his original park. :thumbsup2

I'm much too chicken to go on Splash ( ) but many times I've see people in the logs waving to the train, so I assume it's visible if timed right.

Rawr!

The train is usually a must do for us. DS5 and DS6 just love it! The Dinosaurs are their favorite part. Plus it's nice to sit and relax for a grand circle tour :goodvibes
