We have never eaten at the Rainforest cafe. Can someone tell me about the menu and is the decor nice. I have heard good things about it. Also how pricey is it?? I am looking for a decent meal for the evening we are at DTD so I would appreciate your input and info.

We usually eat here when we go to DTD. You can see the menu and prices here:

My kids love the jungle animals.

The decor is very rainforesty. There are giant fish tanks throughout the restaurant as well as large 'stuffed' animals such as elephants, gorillas, etc... There is a lot of water in the form of fountains and the fish tanks. It's pretty dark inside as well. Every 20 minutes there is a thunderstorm. The lights flash and thunder booms and the animals come to life making their noises and moving around. There is 'moss' hanging from the ceilings and monkeys swinging on swings over head. There are large tree like formations too. In the bar area, the stools are themed like different animals, and the ceiling over the bar is shaped like a giant mushroom. It's all so fun.

As for the food. I would give it a 4 out of 5. Nothing fancy, but good, and large portions. We have one locally and have been to the one in DTD as well as the on in AK and have never had a bad experience. It's a definite must do!

I would recommend making a PS. Please note that PS can not be made by calling wdw-dine you must call the restaurant directly.

If you don't make a PS they do take several walk-ins but the wait could be lengthy. I must say however they were very accurate with the wait times. We were there a few weeks ago and they said 90 minute wait and they did call us almost exactly at 90 minutes.

I agree with a previous poster that the food is good and the portions are very large and that the theme makes it an interesing dining experience.

Also, if you have a RFC in your general area, I would strongly suggest purchasing the Safari Club. It costs $15 and you are then a member for life. Upon joining, they will mail you a $10 gift certificate, and then on your birthday each year you get coupons as well. This makes your membership free after you join and pass 1 birthday (which for me was in a one month time frame ;) ) With the Safari Club, you get either a free appetizer or 10% off your total bill on each visit, and you get priority seating. When we go locally and use our SC card, we have noticed that our wait times are cut in half. They don't take reservations, and we have heard them quote the person in front of us 2 hours and then they tell us 40 minutes :goodvibes Doesn't make us very popular ;)

Even if you don't have one locally, you can join when you get to WDW to get the better seating and free app/10% off. You just won't have your $10 off gift certificate in time to use it.

We did this too and we only go to a RFC at Disney, but we go once a year. It has paid for itself. So I also recommend it (our server sold it to us, but I remember reading someone when in the gift shop at the one at DTD and bought one and then was able to just go right in to be seated afterwards because with the card you get priority seating).

What time do you recommend arriving at RFC in DTD if they don't take PS's??? Would I be outta luck at 5:00??? Thanks!

I've never gone for dinner, so I don't know what it is like, but I would think 5:00 would be good (maybe try for 4:45) because I would think later would be busier.

We go for lunch and usually show up at 11:00 when they open and never seem to have problems getting in at that time, but it gets a lot busier by 12:00.

They don't take PSs at the DTD one? We went to the AK one in Sept and they did. :confused3

My take on RFC:
Decor - great
Food - OK
Service - poor
Price - similar to Disney
Overall experience - I'll go elsewhere

Best food at DTD is the Puck's across from the Virgin Megastore. :earsboy:

I love RFC! We usually spend our MyPoints rewards on RFC giftcards. We belong to the Safari Club and it saves us big, even at home at Joe's Crabshack.

While I love the DTD location, I prefer to go to the one outside of AK for breakfast. It was awesome! Maggie

We have never tried the one at AKL for breakfast, but would love to give it a try. How does the Safari Club work there? We usually get the Free Appetizer with ours at the DTD one at lunch, but I am assuming that for breakfast the only option is the 10% off, right?

Thanks,
DJ

We ate breakfast one time at AK RFC a few years ago. It was very good. Not cheap. But good. We had a $25 gift certificate (2 adults) and we went all out with fruit beverages, etc. Including the tip we still paid out $10.
But it was a good, big meal and a nice start to the day. We just did not eat again until MUCH later.
It was probably mid morning when we were there.

We have always had very good service and food.

The Safari Club allows 10% off OR a free appetizer. (guest's choice) The 10% off is good on merchandise too. And Safari Club members have front of the line walk up seating. You still may wait a very short time. But nothing like most who walk up and want seated.

The $15 is worth it in the seating alone. Often the walk up seating waits are 1.5 hours.

I think Westjones was asking if you could only use the 10% option at breakfast because what would they allow you to get as an appetizer for breakfast? I was wondering this too. Anyone know?

Been to Rainforest on a few occasions, hoping that the next time will be better... but it never is. We love the atmosphere. The decor is great and we love the fish tanks and when it 'rains'. But we have never been satisfied with our food and on more than one my meal has even come out not warm. We do not like their service at all. I wish we could say that we like this place, but having given it a few chances I think we can honestly say that our experiences there have not been pleasant and we will not be returning. Just being honest :)

we ate at the rainforest in dtd for the first time last year and loved it. the food is very good, the cobb salad i had was huge and we loved the atmosphere. it does get loud with the thunder and all but it's alot of fun especially if you have kids.we are going again this year.you can make a ps by calling the rainforest directly.
