Tell Me About the Luau

and what category we should get? DH and I are bringing DD and my parents for the first time. We've never been to the luau either. We always do the HDDR (which we'll do again in Dec.) but thought we'd try something different. We've been to a luau in Hawaii but are interested in giving this a whirl. Can you tell me about and is there much of a difference in the categories? TIA!

we went the soa 2 years ago and when we were done we were wishing we had gone to the hddr. the food was good but the show was not worth it. we ended up paying for cat. 1 seating since it was our honeymoon. good thing we did since i am not sure we would have seen anything if we were in the last seating section. we were also off towards the side of the stage little. over all this was a disappointing show. my dw and I decided that we would not go and do this again.

If you downgrade and do Cat. 3 seating, it can be hard to see the show from where you are. It's not like HDDR where Cat. 3 seating is in a balcony with still a great view, even if you are stuck behind a beam (we actually like Cat. 3 seating at HDDR better than Cats. 2 and 1). As the PP said the food is ok, not great but you shouldn't leave with an empty stomache, but the show is pretty bad, IMHO. It is not worth sitting through for a few good mins towards the end. If you have been to a real luau in Hawaii, your time and money will be much better spent somewhere else. You might be better off putting your DD in child care at one of the deluxes for a couple of hours (depending on her age) while the adults enjoy a nice signature meal. Of course, if your DD is old enough to sit calmly for a 3 hour nice meal, you can always bring her along.
