Tell me about the iPad.

We went to Apple and Brookstone. Neither had good cases. Apple had the Smart Case but we wanted one to cover the back as well. Target had the best supply and we ended up getting one there that is a case as well as something that can prop it up.

I want one the covers the back too. We travel in the car quite a bit and my children will be using it.

I didn't go with the 3G option because I can get a mobile hotspot device for free and still only pay $30 a month. That saves me $129. I got a white 32GB. If it were just for me I would have gotten a 16, but since I will be letting DS use it on car trips and such I figured the bigger one was better this way I can put movies on it for him for when we fly and take car trips to keep him entertained. We take a lot of weekend trips during the summer.

We ended up getting the same as you except in black. Mostly because I wanted plenty of apps and movies for when we travel.

2 mored days:cool1:

I ordered the PixelSkin HD wrap for 1Pad 2 by Speck. Receved it yesterday so I can say how good it will work. It covers the back it looks like the smart cover.

I couldn't remember what it was we got until just now. It is a Belkin. This one http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Folio-Stand-Blacktop-Midnight/dp/B004Q3RDZM My husband has already taken it on an airplane and is across the country with it now and he said he likes it. Target also has an iPad 2 case that will attach it to the back of a car headrest. We might get that for future car trips.

Oh, for those who want internet access and travel but don't want to spend the money on Verizon or AT&T service, Apple has their Airport Express. I gave my husband the WiFi iPad 2 and he went on a business trip. He took our Airport Express "thing" (white box) and in the hotels he's in, he just plugs it in and has instant, free access to the internet. It's working great, too. For $99 it's a great 3G alternative.

My question is If its only going to be used to surf the net and write emails how many GB would I be going through each month? (This might be a dumb question to most but I have no knowledge of anything ipad related)

If that is all your going to use it for is surfing the next then 16GB is good, I bought a 16gb and plan on putting a few movies and apps on it. I also had an iPod touch and never reached the 8gb. I don't mind shifting things around if I get near the top of my limit.

If I am correct the movies are about 2gb each?

I ordered the smart case with mine but will be returning that before my ipad even comes. I guess I'm stuck waiting for the Clamcase. You'd think they'd have cases by now since they knew it was being released.

Are you asking about the 3G model? My husband uses his for surfing and emails as well as watching movies and video chatting with me while traveling. He has the WiFi model. He has the 32GB model and has 8 movies on there now with room to go.

Sorry to hijack with a question, but does anyone know if either of the 3G versions work oversees? Anybody know how one would get it to work oversees (assuming no wifi) or if there's a way at all?

If I can use it oversees without wifi I'm going for the 3G for sure, if not, I'll skip it.

Thanks!

So excited just checked on mine and it's supposed to arrive tomorrow morning yeah!!!! Original delivery date was the 9th but I'm so glad it came early. DH is going into the hospital Friday for a bone marrow transplant and will be in there for 6 weeks. He'll be a pro on this by the time he gets home. Can't wait to be able to Skype him with the kids.

I bought the Targus 360 rotating case from Best Buy and I love it. Its the only case I can find that will let you stand it in portrait view. Best Buy is starting to get more ipad2 cases in they had about three choices not including the smart case.

That's great news. I wish your husband the best of luck with his transplant.

We opted to pay the extra $100 for the 32GB vs. the 16GB. It's only $100, when you're already spending $500, for twice as much memory. This is nice if your whole family is sharing it and everyone has installed their favorite apps. In addition, Disney digital download movies take up like 1GB per movie, so they can take up quite a bit of space if you put those on there like we do.

We went with wifi only since we have an iPhone; we did not want to pay service on 2 devices. I can check my email on the iPhone which is our primary use of the 3G service. You can always use your iPhone 4 as a tether. You'd still have to pay the service charge, but save the additional cost of 3G enabling on the iPad.

iPad 2 has the video chat option which is nice. We have downloaded Skype on our netbook and laptop and the Skype app on the iPad and it works great. You can use the FaceTime app if you're communicating with another iPad or iPhone.

We have the smart cover which I really like. The back is exposed but I bought a custom skin from skinit.com. I found a coupon online and it was like $30. They have a wide variety of Disney characters and sports logos (other stuff as well). Those are a little cheaper than customizing. I have a pic of my kids in front of Mount Rustmore at Castaway Cay for the back. It is super cute with the lime green cover! And VERY easy to install.

I LOVE the iPad. My favorite free app (today) is Smurf Village. You can get it for iPod touch and through game central sync with your friends', or kids', villages and give them gifts.

I also like getting the USA Today newspaper for free and it includes the daily crossword puzzle! The USA Today is my favorite crossword. :lovestruc

Actually, if you have a Mac desk or lap top computer, you can buy the facetime app for $1 and talk to others with facetime. I've been using my lap top all week to video chat with my husband while he's on his iPad across the country.

Mine came today! One day early!! WHOOHOOOO!!!
I received a $25 itunes gift card for my birthday too so it's time for some new apps:cool1:

The Skype is pretty slick! You'll have to set up 2 accounts - one for the iPad (I used one of our secondary email addresses) and one for your laptop (I used our regular email address). Add each other to your contact lists on both devices. If I remember correctly, you can search for each other by user name in a search box.

Then you just call each other with the Video Call button. It's very easy and free.

I made my profile private so only my contacts can call me. I have one contact ... the iPad!

Since your husband will be needing some entertainment, you should download the Island HD app. It's free and my husband LOVES it. It's like Zoo Tycoon. You have to build a resort on an island that your customers reach via cruise ship.

I hope all goes well with the procedure.

My neighbor bought an iPad last summer (the original model) for her 7 week long trip to Japan.

Thanks for the best wishes for DH. His iPad came and he loves it, and so do I hehehe. The kids want one now so I told then to start saving! I love this iPad. Thanks for the tips DBarber600 I will definitely download them for him.

Can you tether your Iphone to the Ipad if you are on the Verizon network? My husband is arguing with me that you can't and I could swear that the guy at the Verizon store told me I could.
Does anyone do this that currently uses Verizon Wireless?

Thanks!!!
