I looking for more information on the book series 39 clues.
Logan who will be 8 next week and is in second grade is a very good reader and has flown through ALL 5 of the diary of a wimpy kid books.

I am trying to find other books that will interest him. I saw this series at the book fair and dont know too much about them. can anyone tell me more about them. What do your 8 year old boys like to read?
thanks
Jennifer

Jennifer has he read the stink series. It's Judy moody little brother.
My bubba just read them and actually laughed out loud while reading them. He could not wait to read the next one. #5 just came out. It's the only one he has not read. We are hoping the "bunny" will bring it!;)
or how about the magic tree hose books? He loved them too. Or horrible Harry series?
Hopes this helps. Don't you just love the fact that he loves to read?

I've read a couple of the 39 clues books. They are entertaining (I read a lot of everything, including "kids" books). I would also recommend the Percy Jackson series, and, of course, Harry Potter. There is also the Mysterious Benedict Society. Those are interesting.

I started reading "39 Clues" with dd13 when she was 11. We really enjoy the books and have recommended them to several friends.

There is a card game component, on-line game component and the books. You can do some or all-- we do them all.:thumbsup2 There is a lot of history and geography in the series-- nothing really in depth, but enough info to spark interest.

Although DD is now out of the target range and they are well below her reading level, we continue to read them because we want to know how the story ends!

My DS9 LOVES the 39 Clues books; he's been reading them for a year or so. He is waiting on pins and needles, because the latest one comes out next week (I think, around the 4th or 5th of April), and he's afraid we won't get it THAT day.

DH read one of them, because we do screen what the boys read, and he thought they were interesting too.

Several of DS' friends got into them when school first started this year because DS was so into them, talking about them, etc. We got him the board game for Christmas, and I have trouble with it....lots of Geography, etc. Ha! He does stuff with the cards that come in the books, and a little bit on the website, but that's separate and you don't have to do that to enjoy the books.

If you have any specific questions, I can ask DS for you.

Steph

wow thanks for all the suggestions --- i will look at the book fair for them - i think i will like them too :)
he is reading some of the magic tree house books now --- he flies through them -- we were in the car for about an hour and he read 2/3 of the book out loud to me --- they are cute
i love the fact that he loves to read ---
i will check out the stink series --- they sound cute --- my friend let us borrow the percy jackson ones --- we might wait till the summer or spring break to start them --- we will read them out loud together

You've had a lot of good advice about 39 clues, so I'll ask if he has read from the series The Secrets of Droon by Tony Abbot? It's about three kids who travel to a different world and have many adventures. My girls loved them!

Hey Jen - check out the Hank Zipzer series - co-written by Henry Winkler (the Fonz from Happy Days). Wonderful adventures of a young boy, about 9 and all the "boy" activities he gets into. My gs Tyler loved them!!

Oh, there's also a series called Peter and the Starcatchers. It's about Peter Pan and his beginnings. Very good.

Another one maybe to add that DS likes right now, they aren't as thick as the 39 Clues, and I haven't read them.....Geronimo Stilton books. He gets those at the library.

Steph

I know my DC is into the michigan chillers books. There actully a pretty good read. Ive borrowed most of them. Shes 10, and scared of ghosts so I guess there not so scary!

Cam Jansen is a good mystery series (though the main character is a girl), my students also enjoyed the A to Z mysteries (there is 1 for each letter), I also 2nd the Geronimo Stilton books but I would suggest reading them with him- there is a lot of background needed to truly understand them, another great series (but old maybe through scholastic or the library) are the Piggy Wiggle books.

Rebecca

Bubba loves cam Jansen books. And the a to z mysteries.
He just got his first Geronimo book.
