My neighbor is friends with a Deli Manager from a local grocery store. I was talking with this neighbor today and she said her friend has heard around the store that there might be a Stew Leonards coming around here.

I've heard of them but don't know much about them. How do you like the store? How are their prices? Good selection of meat?

Do tell.

They're a budget liquor store, that also sells a variety of cheese, chips, snacks, etc.

I think the OP is talking about something else. Stew Leonard's is a full-service grocery store but it mainly sells it's own brand. I live in NE CT too and go to the one in Farmington/Newington every couple of months. Their bagels are fantastic and we stock up and freeze them. They also have fantastic produce, meats and baked goods.

Any idea where it is supposed to be built?

I heard in Norwich past Walmart. Where about in NE CT are you?

I go to the one in Newington too. It's not my regular store though. They have good sales on some nice meat. They have good bagels. They have an excellent prepared-food area where it's sold by the pound, and you can take it upstairs to eat. They also have some items that are, I guess gourmet? fancy cheeses and a variety of items like that. It's a great place to go if you are having a party or a holiday meal. Everything I have ever tried of their Stew Leonards brand has been good.

That being said...it's 'themed' with all these dancing milk bottles, cows and chickens :) It's like the Disney World of grocery stores. And it is arranged in such a way as once you get in, you are in a maze and will buy lots of stuff :rotfl: I go there every couple of months.

It's defenitely not a discount liquor store. I don't even know if they sell it.

I live 2 towns over from the original one in Norwalk and we go there quite often. This one does have a liquor store across the street from the grocery store and is quite extensive.

That being said, however, Stew Leonard's is the self-proclaimed "World's Largest Dairy Store". They have lots of specialty items and their dairy, produce and meats are very good quality. We love Stew's.:lovestruc

I love Stew Leonards! I'm about 15 minutes from the Newington store. They have lots of great stuff, but it's certainly not inexpensive.;) The problem I have with Stew's is that I still need to go to Stop & Shop or Walmart after to finish my grocery shopping because they don't have everything. They don't have a full line of cereals, for example. Yes, they have a few, but the ones they have sometimes vary. They don't always have all the products (like they only have a couple of brands of salad dressings) that I want. So I end up spending even more.

But I love their baked goods and prepared foods (I like to buy a couple Chicken Enchilada meals, etc to keep in the fridge).

They're kind of like Trader Joe's, except with less stuff and a more annoying layout, heh.

We used to love going to the one in Westchester, NY. They were a bit pricey, but had lots of great food. We used to buy our Christmas Tree there every year because they would tie it to our car for us!

I've gone a few times to the one in Westchester, NY. It's truly an experience! I would like to go again before Christmas this year, esp. since they have no so many holiday items. I also love all the samples they have! :goodvibes
