Tell me about San Angel Inn...

This had me frightened:
It was very recent. You can read Disney's announcement from last week here and see photos of the new tables here.

This has me reassured:

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but there doesn't appear to be one long table, you are not sitting at the same table with strangers. The tables might be too close together, but your aren't exactly dining with strangers. A better pic here, please let me know if I'm wrong:

Definitely does not look like long tables/sitting with strangers to me.

IMO, the mole poblano here is one of the best dishes in all of WDW, and the atmosphere is tops.

Just ate there on Monday. There is NO communal seating. The food was better than usual and the service was the best I've ever had there. It seems this restaurant has turned the corner. I would recommend those who had written it off to give it another shot.

Thank you for posting that. Are the tables too close together?

It's a restaurant at Disney World - of course the tables are close together. All tables in all of their restaurants are pretty close together! :)

It has been a couple of years, but I see the new menu still includes the Mahi-Mahi de la Veracruzana, and I enjoyed that dish quite a bit. Perhaps a bit too much tomato flavor in it - mahi is easy to overpower - but the rice and capers and fish, etc. were all very nice and I'd happily order it again.

I like the new look - the old tables were a little on the cliche side.

No problem guys. I have an ADR myself for my 1st trip in Sept, communal dining at a Mexican restaurant didn't sound right so I dug a bit deeper.

Very glad to hear that the food was good. I love gringo Mexican food as much as the next guy, but I've always been a fan of traditional Mexican food as well. From what I've read the food here wasn't as good as the other Mexican place, but the recent reports, and the previous post here have me excited to try a place on the up and up!

Obviously, but there is a difference between totally squished close together (like Le Cellier) and close but still able to have some personal space. The old San Angel looked like it still had breathing room between tables-I'm wondering if it's the same? It's hard to tell from both of those photos, so I'd love an opinion from someone who has been in the last month. :)

We ate there last September, and although the atmosphere is fantastic, that is the only good thing I can say about our experience there. The food was awful, but nowhere near as bad as the service. Not only did it take us 45 minutes to get seated even with an ADR, but it took over 2 hours with no apps or desserts. To make matters worse, our server was downright nasty from the moment we sat down. This is the only restaurant that the family all agrees we would NEVER go back to on property again. Maybe we were there on an off night, but I would not go back if they paid me!
