Got upgraded to pool view from standard at AKL during this latest discount rate offer. Can anyone tell us about that? Also, any tips about pool view? Is it far from the lobby or close? Thanks

We have stayed in pool view rooms at the AKL twice. Our first stay was on the Giraffe Trail and we were upgraded to a deluxe room on the fifth floor. This was our very first stay at the AKL and it was about a month after the resort had opened and not all of the trails were completed yet. We could see animals off in the distant on the Uzima Overlook Savanna and the pool area is beautiful.

On our second stay at the AKL we were also in a pool view room but this time on the Zebra trail on the second floor. We had a nice direct view of the pool area but a liked the view from the higher floor better.

We love the AKL and will be back for our sixth stay in Jan 2006.

We have stayed at AKL twice. The first time we had a savannah view room that was w-a-y down at the end of one of the hallways that went on forever. We liked seeing the animals but we hated the trek especially after a long day at the parks. We'd get into the lobby, breathe it in, and then say ok, let's start our hike to the room. lol Getting anything from the Mara or refilling our mugs made us think twice.

Next time we had a pool view room. While we missed seeing the animals outside our balcony we enjoyed the pool view. We liked going to the pool, so we had a heads up on how crowded it was at any particular time. And the room was one short segment down the hallway. A hop, skip and a jump from the lobby. If we walked the other way in the hall we got to an elevator that took us right down to within steps of the pool, the Mara, and the arcade. Very convenient.

The most telling thing I can say is that if offered a choice between these two identical rooms we would pick the pool view.

We have stayed at AKL pool view room three times and absolutely love it. As a matter of fact, our last trip in May we were offered an upgrade to savannah, but we declined. I know, I know, many people would think us crazy for doing so, but the location of the room was just too far for us. It was as far down the hall as possible, actually the last room on that floor, so the thought of the two of us middle-agers trekking down there at the end of the day or what it would entail for us to just pop into Mara for a soda was more than we wanted. We have been on the second floor all three times, directly over the spa, with a decent view of the pool. The access to the lobby, gift shop, Mara, not to mention just a few steps to the pool, makes it our favorite location at AKL. It's also great to look out over the balcony, see how crowded things are at the pool, and which area to head to for the best location of lounge chairs!

A pool view upgrade is GREAT! But never pay for it.

The walk to the lobby should be no problem.

AKL is absolutely THE BEST!!!

We were upgraded to pool view the first time we stayed at AKL and it was WONDERFUL!! Close to everything and the view was great. We could see the flamingos and even some giraffes in the distance. The second time we went we reserved pool view with fantasies of that amazing view. They stuck us on the first floor behind a bunch of bushes and all we could see were heads and feet of people walking by. We asked to be moved, since we reserved pool view and couldn't see the pool. They obliged (but not without a fight). That being said, I would not reserve pool view anymore because there are obviously some very bad pool view rooms. But I would happily take an upgrade if it were offered.

I agree if it is a free upgrade take it, but I'll never pay extra for pool view again. We were close to the lobby on 4th floor looking right at the roofs of the restaurants. Only a glimpse of the pool through the trees in front of our balcony. We never used the balcony and spent our down time walking about hotel or using the public viewing areas.

We just got back from AKL. Paid for standard view and got upgraded to savannah -- the last room at the end of the hallway at least a five minute walk from the lobby. My girlfriend got upgraded to a pool view -- last room at the end of the hallway about a 2 minute walk and actually overlooked the hot tub AND the Savannah. I got upgraded before to pool view and could actually see the Savannah as well. Basically, I would rather have had her view and shorter walk than my view and the distance. I guess if you get upgraded for free, take what you get. The rooms are all the same unless you get a deluxe. The Savannah views are great (even the one we had of the holding pens) but if you're not on the main Savannah you can face a long walk to the room.

We had pool view at AKL for our stay last fall, upgraded from the standard room we paid for. It was a nice view of the pool area, fyi we could not see any animals. It was on the second floor, not very far from the lobby, but far enough down the hall that we did not have any noise from the lobby. The room was convenient to the Mara also. We are staying Savannah view next time, and I am going to be interested to see the difference. At night, the pool area is lit up and very pretty to watch. I would imagine that there's not much to see at night on the Savannah side.

We have stayed several times including conc. level and we love the pool view best. IT is very close to everything and you can see animals in the distance. There are several viewing areas around the hotel so you don't have to worry about missing animals- be sure to visit the sunset lounge - it is beautiful. Also, the pool view is beautiful at night from your balcony. You will love it!!
