I'm not usually interested in moderates, but for some reason I seem to suddenly be looking at POFQ. Ive seen some pictures and it really looks nice plus Ive heard some good reviews.

So can someone sell me on POFQ? Why should I go back to a moderate when I like the values more than the moderate I have stayed at (POR)? :)

Oh, Camcolt, you happen to be asking about my favorite resort on Disney property. I love the atmosphere at the Port Orleans French Quarter--it's so bright, and cheery, and whimsical. It's very peaceful there--when I walk around the resort, it's like I have the place to myself. The size of the resort makes it a lot more managable than the other moderate and value resorts. No matter where your room is, it's no more than a 5-7 minute walk to the food court and bus stop.

The rooms are great, and very soundproof. In the four times I've stayed at the POFQ, I've only had one noise related problem--when there were a bunch of cheerleaders running around outside my room. Other than that, I never heard a peep from my neighbors there (nor did I hear the toilets). The privacy curtain is a nice touch, your hubby can be in the bathroom while you are in the vanity area changing, and the boys can be watching cartoons in the bed area.

Now that the kids are getting older, the extra room will be a nice feature for you. And don't forget the free fridge in the room. The kids will love the slide at the Port Orleans French Quarter as well. And the boat ride to downtown Disney is a nice little break from the buses.

So, give the POFQ a try :) I hear Jerry likes it there, too ;)

Hi there CamColt! :)

My wife and I had a problem at the airport with a plane, so we needed another night and booked the French Quarter. For no good reason, other than it sounded like a good idea at the time!

It was absolutely lovely! Because the resort is smaller, it's not NEARLY as spread out as the rest of the moderates.

We booked a water view, and had a GORGEOUS view of the Sassagoula River, and the pedestrian bridge connecting the French Quarter to Riverside. The room was immaculate - and this was before the refurbishment.

The ground were so beautifully manicured - even though most of the plant life was wilting because of extraordinarily low temperatures.

You can see the photos I took of the resort: http://www.theverythoughtofyou.net/disney/0103/011803.html

IGNORE the report part. Like I said - after problems at the airport, I was MAD tired and cranky, and I completely disagree with my evaluation of the resort looking back on it! ;)

I spent 4 days at POFG in April and I was a WL junkie, I have to say I loved it, there was plenty of storage room, the decor was new and fresh. I liked being able to go to Riverside and use their Food Court also, and there is a great walk between the 2 resorts, so serene in the evenings and a great way to keep up my exercise routine. I will say the pool area is a little small at the FQ but there are several others within walking distance at Riverside. I thought the grounds were beautiful. As for the values there always seems to be so much noise. You also have the opportunity to take a boat ride into downtown Disney. I am going back in Oct. Haven't done values in awhile but I don't feel I have lost to much stepping down from the WL. Although it is still a beautiful resort and I will go back there in Dec. for a few days, the FQ is a great value for the money at least in my opinion. The only problem I had was with the mousekeeping and I think they are working on that problem, although I believe most of the resorts have a problem keeping good help these days.

Thanks guys!

Its funny that you have mentioned the size. I think that is what turned me off to POR. I liked it and enjoyed our stay there, but after 2 trips I would still be lost if I went back...and it seemed like such a hike to get anywhere. Thats one of the reasons I prefer the values to moderates in general. They seem so compact to me after staying at POR.

Maybe some day I'll bite the bullet and go back to a moderate. Jerry might just convince me.

Hey CamColt! We loved POFQ. I had wanted to stay here for our 2004 trip and it was closed for refurb. I was going to make reservations at POR after my wife and I visited it and loved the place. When POFQ suddenly came open I switched back to my original plan and booked there. Boy am I happy I did. The resort is laid out like a value and is small in nature. This place is not confusing at all. The pool is great. The atmosphere and theme is great as well .We moved up here from ASMU and we will definitely be going back as this is our new favorite hotel.

We just got back from a two night stay there. Dh & I enjoyed the resort. Our room was quiet - we never heard any noise from our room. We loved Scat Cats, which has a performer Wed-Sat only. I wish we would have had another night there. We would have loved the access to Downtown Disney. As it was, every night after 9pm we were back at the hotel enjoying Scat Cats.

We just got back from 6 days at the POFQ and we really loved it. Very compact resort. Nice landscaping, very lush. Decent food court...my kids loved the coloring table at the food court. There is a small hot tub and playground. The pool is very nice with a fun dragon slide. There is also a baby pool. The resort sits on the river (the pool is on the river side) and you can take the boat to POR or to DTD or you can walk along the river to POR. The rooms very clean and updated. We heard no noise between the walls. On the way to the parks we shared a bus with POR, so it would pick us up first and then head to the 4 stops at POR. At night we usually had our own bus, but when we did have to share with POR, the POFQ people were dropped off first.

My only complaint--no towel animals, but I know that is just by chance and shouldn't really be a complaint!

Hope that helps.

We stayed at the French Quarter last year and loved it! The grounds are beautiful and the room was perfect for the three of us. I loved how everything was so close. We were in builing 5 facing the courtyard and we were steps to the pool, food court and bus stop. It's especially charming at night when the "street" lamps are on. You'll love it there! :cool1:

Wow! Lot of great reviews here. Thanks!

How was the bus service?

I think the bus service at the POFQ is fine. The buses stop at the POFQ, and then head over to the POR. Some people complain about the buses stopping at both resorts, but I didn't think it was any worse than do a loop at the other moderates, or the loop at the Epcot resorts. I think it's pretty quick since they are right next to each other.

While I loved POR (Dixie Landings) because of its park-like atmosphere and would love to stay there again, I have to say that I really enjoyed my stay at POFQ last summer! I thought the newly refurbished rooms were as good as a deluxe room, they were so beautifully done. We were in Building 4 right next to the food court which was very handy.
