How's the food for dinner? Where should we sit? Is there entertainment? Will hungry teenage boys (and husband!) enjoy the food and atmosphere? If I don't care about seeing fireworks, is there a BEST place to sit? Is this, in your opinion, a better option than the Aloha Dinner Show?

Thanks for your help! :wave2:

Ohana is alot of fun! All you can eat. Check out www.allearsnet.com for the menu. You sit with others at long tables. It's alot of fun. They have broom races and hula hoop races. Fun stuff. It's alot different from Spirit of Aloha. Spirit of Aloha is more like a lulua (spelling?) it's an actual show that you watch again from long tables. Also, all you can eat! I've been to both and both are very very good. It's tough to compare as they are very different. However, if I had to choose, I'd pick Spirit of Aloha!

We love 'Ohana and try to go there several times a year. We love the food and since we can get all we want, we usually pick our favorites and get several helping of them.

Ohana is one of our favorites. We go at least once during each visit. Sometimes we go on the first and last night of our vacation. I would recommend it to all. The teenage boys may not get much out of the coconut race, or the hula dance lessons though. If you can, ask to sit in the main dining room in fron of the fire pit. I always find the main dining room to be more entertaining. Also, the previous poster stated that you sit at long tables with others. We have always been seated at a table by ourselves.

Have a great time!

We've enjoyed both 'Ohana and the luau, but (scenery aside) I think teen-aged boys might enjoy 'Ohana more. It's perfect for people who are hungry, because you can ask for more of whichever things you enjoyed the most. Like Triplet88822, our family of 4 has always been seated at our own table.

I never did the Luau, but ate at Ohana last year in September. The food was good and plentiful, but the service was slower than mud and the place is very loud. Of course, the scenery is very beautiful! There are large windows that you can see a great view of the castle from, I think pretty much any seat would be okay to see the fireworks, but you'd need to be right up at the windows for the best view.

The service was friendly but slow. We are not big eaters, so that didn't bother us not getting as many meat "refills" (for lack of a better term) but we like our soda and water and that was very, very slow to get to us. The servers seem absent alot of the times...I mean, I didn't see them serving other guests, so where the heck were they? A carafe of cold water on the table would fix this problem.

The dessert was good, the bread pudding with bananas foster sauce and ice cream, but I know there are disers that prefer the old dessert of pinneapple and caramel.

The atmosphere is very nice, with the live music and the games for the kids. It is festive and touristy. The food I'd say is no better or worse than those chain Brazillian places, the Sabor Di Brasil's, etc...just grilled meat and lots of it. The shrimp was amazing, but that is not on the menu now (maybe the 25 shrimp my DH ate cleared out the ocean???) The sides are tasty.

If you don't mind slow service and a loud but neat atmosphere, it is a good place to visit at least once.

We ate there last month and just loved it. My DD got to do the limbo, learn the hula, march in a conga line, and dance around. The activities are geared to younger kids, but it's a fun atmosphere even if yours are too old to participate. It was among our favorite restaurants.

And someone earlier said you're seated at long tables with others: that was not the situation when we went. There were on our evening two large parties of wedding rehearsal dinner groups who were seated at long tables in the front of the fire pit, but there are individual tables of varying sizes all over the restaurant, mostly in the main room where the kids' activities are.

The atmosphere is fun, festive, yet somehow relaxing. Probably because everyone is so friendly there!

The food is as flavorful as you can ask for, and it just keeps coming until you give up, lol. I think it is one of the real great deals in Disney dining and I consider it a must-vist every stay.

Definitely sit near the firepit. When we went last year, the hostess was going to seat us in the back room, but I politely insisted that we be near the fire pit. That's where all the action is! My kids loooooved Ohana (we all did, even my super picky-eater DH!) and it is definitely on our must-do list next May. Margie was our waitress - she was FABULOUS!

Hi
I think the shrimp is still there, but not on skewers. It's served in a bowl. Someone tell me if I'm wrong. I hope not because we'll be there next week and since I don't eat the meat, I'm looking forward to the shrimp. Thanks!!

My kids #1 favorite restaraunt at WDW (so far) : Teppanyaki
Parents #1 favorite restaraunt at WDW: Le Cellier

Group vote, #1 favorite family restaraunt: OHANA'S!!!!

We had a blast. Tho we probably won't go when having to pay OOP, now that we're on the DDP again, its one of the first ADR's I made and I can't wait till my grandma and mom get a gander!

As far as seating goes....probably away from the middle (where all the games are played...your seat may get bumped into or trampled over) and away from the fire pit (too hot!). When she first sat us near the entrance I was worried b/c we were kind of away from the action and arriving diners walked right past our table...but there was enough distance that I really didn't notice them after the food arrived and my attention was refocused. The games were cute, my daughter led the parade! They also did the hula and recieved free leis. The food is fabulous...just save room for dessert. And if there is something you know up front you may want extra of, feel free to tell them up front. I know that the waitress brings the first course and drinks and alot of the subsequent courses are brought out by other servers and I was afraid I wouldn't see her again to ask for seconds so I told her to start us off with alot of shirmp and she brought out two bowls. Now that I think about it, if you have any drinkers in your party you don't have to worry about the waiter/ess not checking on you b/c they want to get you a refill...it helps the tip right? We ordered several backscratchers and some pineapple drink concoction that was strong enough to make my hair stand up (so much for that rumor about disney watering the drinks down...in fact...can I get some water please?). We had a blast...service was great, food was great, entertainment was great.

My DH loved Ohanas  and it was one of his top two picks this trip (along with le cellier of course!)
