What ages would like this resturant, what makes it fun, and types of food. Thanks. Thinking of trying it when we go. Any help would be great. Toss up from this or margaritaville. :)

If you're talking about the restaurant in USF, it's the Monster Cafe (based on the classic Universal monsters), and not Monsters Inc (the Disney Movie). It's just a very well-themed light fare restaurant (burgers, etc.) with props, posters, statues, photos, etc. from the classic monster movies.

Actually, it's called Monsters Cafe. There's rotisserie chicken and ribs. I think there's some pasta too like lasagna. It's a counter service place and it's pretty good.

Thanks for the response. This might be a place to stop at. Must have had my mind on Sully and Mike when typing the Monsters, Inc. Opps :)

Never eaten there, but never heard a rave review either. I love margaritaville and would sugguest you get more opinons before plunking your money down there. Margaritiville is well themed and plenty of food at really decent prices. We used our AP to get discounted food and mers.. also they take AAA for discounts. The Nachos and soups are highly recommended and I like the burgers and I have read numerous times on this site the steaks are outstanding.

I know it was a buffet. It had Star in the name, but I can't remember it exactly. I'm thinking of the All Star Restaurant, but that doesn't sound right.

Your right about reviews. I have wanted to try margaritavile but we are only doing Universal studios just for a day coming from Disney, and not sure if want to take the time for margaritavile. What would other people do?? Opionions are always appreciated. We are going to Universal on Mon Feb 3rd. What time does margaritavile close?? can we get in after parks close without a citiwalk pass? Thanks everyone reading these threads have been Priceless!!.

We ate at Monster's Cafe the last time we were at USF. Everyone enjoyed their food. DH got chicken, I think. We also got cheese ravioli and I think someone got pizza. It was all very tasty. This place is more of a "run in and eat while you are in the park" kind of place - as opposed to a sit down restaurant experience. The food is served cafeteria-style and that makes for a quick eating stop. The theming is fun - haunted house, etc. with old horror movies playing on TV's. It was really fast and the food was certainly better than your usual "fast food" place. I believe there were salads and fruit available, too. We are looking forward to stopping in again in December.

Have fun!!

Nan

You'll pass thru citywalk on your way to and from the parks and it's not out of the way by any means it's just when you leave the park and get to the point your walking to the left to go back towards the people movers to go to the parking garage just hang a right and it's right there to your left. When you come out of universal at night you'll see the pink and purple neon parrott light on the building. You do not have to have a pass to do anyting in Citywalk except club hop at night time. You can go in anywhere at citywalk and eat and you have to go thru citywalk to get to the parks anyways. They were open till 1 or so in the summer i bet there open till atleast 11 or so right now. So YES they'd be open at US closing time. That's what most people do is shuffle into citywalk for there suppers after park closing time. Have a great trip and take the time to browse citywalk on your way to and from the parks.

If we are still able to go into margaritaville after park closes, this would be great. I thought you needed a citiwalk pass. Our 1st time going can ya tell. I just didnt want to waste park time in a resturant like that for our 1 day there. This will be fun!!. Kids should love it. Have a great trip.

When we went in late Oct. the Monsters Cafe at US was closed. has it reopened???

I went in October also and the restaurant was closed. It wasn't listed on the park guide as a dining option either. Was this just temporary?

We ate there once a few years ago and were not too impressed with the service or food, but maybe things have improved since then.

The burger place near the Earthquake ride is pretty nice! :) Good fixin's bar, clean restaurant, nice view from the second floor.

I have to agree about Richter's burgers. They have a great fruit cup too. There's a nice deck out back that sits over the water.

I know you're not going to Islands of Adventure.

However, it's my opinion, and the opinion of others, that the best restaurant at the Universal Theme Parks is in IOA and not in the Studios.

It's MYTHOS.

It's awesome. If you can possibly get there, do yourself a big favor and eat at MYTHOS !

I believe Monster Cafe is suffering the same fate as Thunder Falls Terrace in IOA. Not enough bodies thru the gates to justify having them open right now:smooth:
