Grand Cayman has some of the healthiest reefs in the world. I would recommend doing a snorkel excursion or sting ray city.
This is my thoughts!!! Ok I'm biased, I'm an avid diver. My son just turn 6 so diving is out of the question, but snorkeling is in! Even with a younger child you can take them on a catamaran etc..my son has been going on snorkeling excursions since age 4..and before that we just did glass bottom boats etc. It seems like such a waste to me to go to a Margaritaville in a foreign country...especially one with so much to do! But that's my personal opinion, everyone vacations differently.Grand Cayman has some of the healthiest reefs in the world. I would recommend doing a snorkel excursion or sting ray city.
We were at Grand Cayman for a cruise port stop and did this tour (also with an outside company - many of them do it) and it was AMAZING! Definitely the best shore excursion we ever have done.I had originally planned on the turtle farm, but changed my mind and going with an outside company to do stingray city, starfish beach, and a reef snorkel. I wish we could do the turtle farm as well, but doesn't look like enough time
Glad to hear! Was Stingray City super crowded? It looks that way in every photo I've seen. I definitely like that these outside companies are on a smaller boat with fewer people! We were at Grand Cayman for a cruise port stop and did this tour (also with an outside company - many of them do it) and it was AMAZING! We have said that if we end up in GC again, we will definitely take my 11yo son with us on the excursion and do it again. (He wasn't with us on the previous GC cruise.)
We actually didn't get to do Starfish Point due to rough water but the reef snorkel and Stingray City was more than enough to make it a great excursion. It helped that we were not with a HUGE group of people. Smaller tour are much better for this sort of experience.
Yes, it gets crowded - HOWEVER if the tour operator you are with is good, s/he will try to be there when there are less boats. For example, we went there first and there were only a few other boats there. By the time we had to leave (each boat only has a certain amount of time they can stay there), it was packed. Our First Mate had brought over one of the rays (he knew them all and had names for them) and we were able to gently interact with her and feed her. During this time other rays were coming by and would brush against your legs like cats. It was an incredible feeling.Glad to hear! Was Stingray City super crowded? I've never posted a picture on here. Let's see if I can do this...

Just got back from there over Spring Break!! This was a surprise fun spot for my 7 year old. Our excursion to see stingrays and starfish was cancelled due to weather conditions and the tour of the island we took instead was just not nearly as exciting for her. We wandered in to buy tshirts and then went upstairs and saw the cool slide and said heck yes! She already had her suit on so she happily slid away while her 16 yr old sister and I had food and people watchedWe were looking for something to do in Grand Cayman and read about this place. Would like to see your photos and hear your opinion about this place. Thought our son could swim and we can watch him by the pool, having some margaritas![]()
what kind of prices are we talking about?Just got back from there over Spring Break!! This was a surprise fun spot for my 7 year old. I can not speak to other locations but this one was one of the highlights of our trip! It helped dispell some of the disappointment from not getting to do the planned snorkel excursions (FYI we had booked with an outside party.) Oh, and the food was ok and def overpriced but it IS a caribbean island AND a tourist spot so I expected nothing less.
$235 for lunch?? For 3 of you?? What the heck did you eat?
I think our bill was $80 for 3 people with 2 margaritas.what kind of prices are we talking about?
yikes!I think our bill was $80 for 3 people with 2 margaritas.
is there some kind of area with souvenir shops and/or local handcrafts etc in the same area of Margaritaville....?

My son has no say in the matter..he WILL be certified at age 10!!!lolWe are divers too! We were just there on the Fantasy a couple of weeks ago and had a great dive excursion. Heading back there for a full week of diving in June.
And there's hope - my kids were certified at age 14 and 10 and the earned their AOW a couple of years later. All 4 of us dive together now! So fun!
Why would you want to visit a beautiful island and spend your day at a chain restaurant that can be found in just about every city in the US?
There are relatively few Margaritavilles. Closest to me, it seems, is Vegas. I don't go to Vegas.
There are many Jimmy Buffet fans in this world.
There aren't many restaurants with a pool slide in them.
Margaritaville can seem very unique and fun, if you don't have them all around you.
And our day in GC ended up being perfect for a first time there. We get a bit skittish in new places where we have only a limited number of hours, and it works out well to do something small, something "lite", the first time. A duck tour and Margaritaville? perfect. And DS bought a hat (like a fedora) which has served him well for some dances he's done. Kid looks good in a hat.
Next time we'll go to a proper beach, now that the duck tour showed us how easy it all is.![]()
