I had a bad meal at Kona in November (my "medium rare" prime rib came out well done, not a speck of pink to it, and it was very tough IMO). We had waited so long for our food that I didn't want to wait for them to remake my dinner, so I picked at it but it was BAD (and yes, I told the server). I ordered my dessert "to go" to take back to the room to eat and when I opened it up, it was disgusting. It was supposed to be a warm dessert and they hadn't bothered to heat it so the chocolate in the center was rock-hard. It was totally inedible. So needless to say, I was very disappointed in Kona. We returned there for lunch later in the week and I was again disappointed...I had the "island chicken sandwich" (suggested by our server) and found it to be very blah, nothing exciting.
That being said, I've heard nothing but great reviews about Kona. My sister's family just returned from Disney and I warned her not to eat there but they did (they stayed at Poly after I suggested it). They LOVED it, ate there several times, and said it was their favorite restaurant the entire week.
I really do want to like it, so I will be giving Kona another try this November. This time, if my food comes out wrong, I'll send it back.
As for Boma, we ate there after reading all the hype on DIS. To be honest, it just wasn't our style. The server was unfriendly, we'd just been checked into a dirty room at AKL, so I was tired & frustrated.
Just my experiences...
